Today is the 80th anniversary of Doolittle Raid

TRUE AMERICAN HEROES !!!
GOD BLESS THEM, and REST IN PEACE...

That reminds me, today is also one of the most important days in US history. I'll start a new thread.

The San Francisco earth quake that killed thousands of San Franciscans or Paul's ride? Great day either way indeed.

Great Men.. Brave Men... True Heros!! They took it to Tokyo when Japan thought they were safe... Get Ready cause this is just a little early heads up to what is coming...

I salute all who flew on this mission... All who were involved with planning and preparations for this mission.....

I saw the movie. Truly brave men. From a time when you had to deliver the mail in person, instead of remotely from an air conditioned room.

I actually just finished a book on this topic. Paul should have grabbed a rifle instead of his horse.

He was most likely armed with pistols but can't deliver a message without a horse...The Minute Men needed to be warned about the Red Coats coming for the munitions in Concord.

Been reading Bill O reillys killing series. Just got done with killing the Rising Sun now on killing Patton. Good History lesson.

I just finished watching a 4 part documentary on the Doolittle Raid. I was excellent and mirrored the several books I have read on the subject. Lots of footage and photos that I had not seen before. Narrated by Gary Sineise.

Pretty ballsy plan.

Aircraft not really designed for carrier take off and not fully expected to return.

That sounds great... Do you know the shows name?? Sinise is one of my favorites.

Jimmy Doolittle proved that Warriors don't have to be tall.... The man must of had ice water in his veins.... He made it too 81 years old I believe..... Amazing
EDIT here... I was incorrect, the tough old bird made it to 96 years old....

Great brave/patriotic people/person
helped to save American lives,
helped to end the war in the Pacific earlier too

My Granddad Whittey/Elmer knew him (as my father tells it)
he was a regular contributor at Shell Oil,
while Granddad worked there 44 years before enlisting & after the War
they met on a Naval ship...
Granddad was an officer somewhere in the Pacific,
it was all hush-hush at the time...
Usually deployed to/on destroyers & later aircraft carriers
he/Granddad was a lubrication engineer/specialist of some sorts
not 100% sure what that title in the Navy was...

But, they kept in contact,
he ate at their house in Albany/Berkely area SF Bay area
while Granddad was serving in the USCG, for another 20 years in reserves
out of Alameda Naval ship yards
he'd/Dolittle would do speaking deals at there & at Shell too...

My Aunt, Dad's older sister has a cool photo scrapbook
I need to take some digital photos of its contents

anyway thanks for sharing @Coronet_Arch
