The jaws on the rail go over the retainer.
 
check mancini's they have them with a bolt to compress the spring.Easier one person use!You will pay 2 bills though for one.Well worth the money.
 
what,you couldnt find anything bigger?i just use my air powered tool,expensive but works great.

Thats the tool I am talking about!I have a air operated head off spring compressor very spoiled there.For the heads on spring compressor had a similar tool made up by a machinist friend.It was not so finger friendly when you dont slip the bar on correctly!!:fit:
 
The mancini tool sound good.
This happened Friday and we needed the engine for the weekend.
