Top end Issues

I need help my wife is pissed and wants me to get rid of it.:eusa_boohoo:
That's typical of many women who are not into cars. I have an X because of crap like that but she also had many other issues that surfaced after we got married....she's jealous that you are spending so much time on another woman lol

update

here is the latest update got her to fire when it did blew out the muffler on passenger side (wife was pissed, I laughed like hell) Time for headers and new exhaust wooo hooo. Oh yeah and now the good news finally got the wife to actually sit in the Satellite she got in with a bit of a huff, looked around the interior and said "honey you need to fix this glove box door it looks hideous" I responded by handing her a screwdriver and telling her to do it herself, long story she almost likes the car.

blowing out the muffler is not a good sign, I's thinking this should be fixed before new mufflers get installed. sounds like some timing issues or valve train problems if you backfire that severe to blow up muffler. hmmm perhaps a leak down test??? is in order?? im sure more exp.engine dudes will know better . and the wife thing..dont ever cave in man...win some battles. lose some battles.. but when it comes to your car(s) you must win that one.

I think it was a build up of fuel in the exhaust as this is the first time it has back fired since I started figuring out its issues. I have done the leak down test static compression test found that it is all good just pulled front of engine apart and who ever built this engine before me was an idiot the cam was about 3 teeth off so figured that would fix my problem found all this after blowing up the muffler. As for the caving part I don't have to worry about it the wife is almost as into the car as me her only problem with it is the color but we can fix that as soon as the patch panels are put in place about 3 months away its gonna be midnight purple metallic and we are going to shoot the jams, trunk interior and engine bay new penny copper. Hope its sooner rather than later though I want to take her for a cruise and show her the real reason I bought the car.

first thing is buy a electronic ignition, or kit too change it over, with harness, balast,
did the kid put a single plane intake on it?

Might I make a suggestion. Get rid of that edelcrap carb. Put a good carb on there. I tried a 1407 on my car and nothing I did would help it other than taking it off and throwing it on the shelf.

Its alive now for the pretty stuff

:eusa_dance:Ok she is running good and I mean damn good it all came down to the plugs and the timing and the wife took it out for a drive she came back smiling from ear to ear and wanted to know if we could take it to church today LOL. I knew she would like it once she drove it. She has never driven a V8 car let alone a BB mopar. It is a little sluggish on the bottom end though thanks to the torker 383 manifold. Oh yeah the edelcrap carb is long gone first thing to go. Now just got to get started on the body work ie. lower quarter patch panels on both sides and an outer rocker on the passenger side everything else is just surface rust.:headbang:

:headbang:Sweet Summer is finally here err... no wait something is wrong its still spring and its 85 degrees outside. Oh yeah baby perfect day for a cruise wooo hooo time to test the new electronic ignition.:iroc:

i know it's a bit late and the problem is fixed, but do you think it could have been that the engine was not able to handle the amount of fuel? i know my 383 has a hot cam in her (yours of course as mentioned was stock) but she won't run with any carburetor except with what she has because the amount of fuel would choke her out, would get backfire through the carb for the longest time if even the slightest too rich or higher in fuel flow, fixed her up but good with some skilled tuning, but that could have been a problem you were facing as well... food for thought?
