Torque Converter recommendation (Manufacturer & Stall Speed)

I am going to be in the market for a new Torque for my 79 Magnum. It's a 451 with 10.80 Comp .050 quench very light bob weight TFS240 and a 242 246 Hughes solid cam. Dana 60 354 gears. I have both single and Dual plane intakes and I got a quick fuel 850 DP carb. I presently have a 2700 TCI converter but a few people suggested I go with a 32-3500 converter with this new setup. I do most driving on the street and once a month trips to track for bracket nights. I still want to keep car street able. The car last year had a 440 with those KB184 slugs with ported 452 cast heads, 228 cam, cast iron intake (worked over) Manifolds and a Thermoquad. I was happy at track with it. Ran consistent 12.75 to 12.85 @ 106 with Cooper radials and 1.91 60' times.

Personally I would try what you have now. After some track time you can decide if you want to increase the stall. If you are not planning to use slicks at the track, the higher stall probably won't help much.
 
so why change converters till you get a baseline with the one you have?
If you have more torque it will stall higher than previous-
is this 451 a stroked 400? 440 rod or?
what tranny cooler- I suggest 1/2 lines- they went to half inch on the diesels for a reason, oil proof hose with a filter between the trans and the cooler works fine
 
Oh, and your past track times were pretty good for what you had. What does the car weigh, and what track?
 
Some rules of thumbs on converters on the street
really light you can use a much looser converter than if you are "heavy"
Lower gears you can use a looser converter than with tall gears
running with too loose a converter on the street just makes heat
since they are expensive i'd sure run what I got till I know which way to jump and how high

The car weighs 4200 with me in it. The track is up north outside of Montreal.Not a bad idea to try what I have. The previous 440 made 530Tq. The 451 that I have is a 400 with 440rod,1.32 CH piston and about 500gr lighter per hole. Pistons are 527 gr vs 850 KB184 and rods are 150 lighter than old 6pk rods. The motor revved so quick it was amazing. For testing purposes The 1st pull with the old 440 heads and the old 228 bullet hydraulic with performer intake because it fit the Thermoquad came in at 516HP and 567 TQ. I will be putting TFS240 along with the solid cam this week-end to see what we come up with. My buddy Nick did a 440 similar to this and got 600 HP 625 TQ so hoping for the best.So with added torque it should stall higher.
 
I agree to try it with what you have in it now as you have a heavy car without alot of gear. See how it is with the converter in it and then you can go from there if you want to change it later.
As for the converter brand there are many good ones out there and you will get a lot of opinions on who's to use. Myself I run a Luppo Dynamic 9.5 street/strip converter that has been in my car since 2006. I like it a lot because it drives very nicely on the street and works good at the track. Good luck with it.
