Torqueflite Won't Upshift

I agree. Aint exactly precision fit from the factory. Its always bugged me with 3 mounting screws off to one side of the inlet. LOL.

  • The as found picture clearly shows the filter was correct, two suction holes, but the B&M extension and gasket only had a hole for the forward pump suction. This arrangement completely isolated the rear pump in my early (1962-65) a-727, causing severe shifting problems.
  • The methodology picture shows how I used a rubbing of the correct filter, used golf tees through the screw holes to locate everything accurately and then center punch through the rubbing paper to locate the new 5/8" hole through the extension. I also made a matching hole in the gasket.
  • The after modification picture shows the new 5/8" passage in thee extension and gasket. Short test drive showed upshift problem solved.

If your trans output is a flange plate instead of a u-joint yoke, if it has two cables, if it's before 1966, then you have two pumps.
Supposedly you could push start them if needed.
If anyone's ever seen that done, tell us.
Yes they will push start with the two pumps. I did it several times as a kid.
