Torsion bars

After removing a 318 from my 1964 dodge coronet and installing a big block the front end remains high as though theres no engine in it...can anyone explain why and direct me as to the fix..Im thinking about adjusting the torsion bars to get the stance Im interested in but it seems strange that it remain high.thanks

Has the car been moved since you dropped in the new engine? If so, someone cranked up the bars. The poly teen isn't exactly a light weight engine but it is still not as heavy as the big block but even so, the big block won't make the front end sit that much more lower than it did before.

Ok thanks, Yes the cars been moved around in the garage by me but Im certain no one else has touched it. I back halfed the car and so the rear sits a little lower with the four link than before so maybe its a visual thing..but, its had me concerned for a while...I think Ill just adjust the torsion bars and have the front aligned and be done with it....thanks again

I may be completely off base, but you mention the rear being low. Has the rear suspension changed? Changing front will shift weight to or from rear and vice versa.

Yes the rear has been tubbed and four link installed, the front suspension hasn't been changed. However when the 318 came out the front obviously raised, but when the big block went in the front didn't go back down at least to where it originally was with the 318,and with the heavier engine we though it would drop a little more. There is still dampening in the front suspension as we thought perhaps due to the age of the shocks and such, they may have rusted/stuck, but obviously that wasn't the issue..thanks ML

I can't picture a reason why your front end is acting the way it is, unless it needs to be serviced, or rebuilt bad. Have you stood on the front bumper, and checked for bounce?
If nothing else, since you have the engine weight in, adjust the torsion bars per the book, to see what happens. 'Something' could be hung up.
