Trailer

It looks like the platform for the machine is overbuilt and the tongue portion is under built. At the very least, I would get a drop down hitch ball that would allow the trailer to be level.

To me this trailer looks like its made wrong. Its to short, load is close to hitch. It looks like it was made for a machine half the size.
The biggest thing I feel is the hitch is to low. I have a Tacoma 4x4 and its still seems to low for that truck....It feels like the more you raise it up past being level it wants to flip over backwards.
Notice it has a jack in the rear
Just for maneuvering alone the tung length is way short. Is that angle iron hanging down that the tung is welded to... sketchy looking? I don't get the layers of box stacked up that makes it so tall either? I'd honestly start over, it would be easier. 2×4 box frame that the leafs and welder bolt directly to without the layers and a longer tung.

That trailer is scary looking! I would use the welder to weld together a new one, one that wasn't welded together out of scrap found at the dump.

I knew it was wrong and thanks for the reply
I looked it over and was trying to figure what I could do to fix it but the more I look the more I think all I can do is salvage the axle springs and wheels and scrap the rest

Hmm, I see your point...Perhaps like some of the guys mentioned, 60% over the axle?

It’s junk except for what I can salvage
I looked at it hard and long today and some of the guys here who know these small trailers confirmed what I suspected
I ran the machine today and it sounds nice
I’ve used it once or twice in the past and it welds like a SA should
Normally I’d be disappointed with the trailer being a POS but at this stage I don’t care
A few hundred in steel and I will have a proper trailer I can tow with confidence

Just a basic idea but this is roughly what I'd do. Very simple box tubing layout with an extended tung that ties in at several points for sharper steering radius.

747mopar idea on the frame is spot-on. Your current set-up is way too short and top-heavy to be a safe pull over 30 mph, IMO. Double the frame length, lower the assembly, and adjust the weight bias fore/aft to 60/40. You'll then be able to haul that with minimum issues. Throw some fenders and lighting/reflectors on it. Good luck!

food for thought

Not sure of your intended purpose of the welder, but a tilt bed , similar to a car tilt bed, with a winch at the front so that you can winch the welder -that is on a cart - up onto the trailer..... Couple of spring loaded pins to lock it down.....

I talked to the guy who built it tonight, said he built it with his dad....What could I say,,,why he made it so high, such a short tongue....My thoughts were towing it down my daughters house for storage....Its a hundred miles away and down I 95.....No way id do that with this trailer.... Like I said I didnt buy it for the trailer but I wish I could have at least modified the trailer to work, now im keeping the axel, springs and wheels and scraping the rest and starting from scratch ....Your right on the money with your advise and thanks
