Trans brake vs. foot brake

Speaking to some drivers of 8 and 9 second cars today revealed some puzzling information to me . I think all in attendance had a trans brake on their car but opt to use a footbrake instead. I always thought that a trans brake was the way to go. So, my question is: Is the foot/trans brake decision based on track condition, reaction to said foot/trans brake reaction, both? I'm confused. Anyone.....?
 
I'll be paying attention. Huh, I've always thought a trans brake was the way to go too (if everything was built for it, etc.).
 
Should have asked them since you were speaking to them. I would think if they were foot braking cars that fast it would push the car through the lights.

That's what I would have thought. It was such an overwhelmingly majority that I was embarrassed to ask.
 
I foot brake mine. 9.25@147. It leaves fine at 3000. I run against trans brake cars about 50% of the time. In my case I would say my R/T is better more than 50% of the time than there's. That being said, I think a brake can help consistency.

sometimes it's a rules issue, to not use a trans-brake also... I've had great luck with trans-brakes, mainly just had better reaction times for the most part, especially on a 0.4 tenths Pro-Tree... foot brake is great for 0.5 tenths in my personal experience, but did well with either... as long as you have a loose enough converter, that will flash well...
 
They had a choice to run either trans or footbrake. I believe that they used a .400 full tree.
 
if you use a line lock button activated, to me it's almost like running a trans-brake, in the fact you leave off a button not moving your foot off the peddle... I pretty much always ran a 0.4 Pro-Tree most my later cars were Jeffco or Lenco Crower double or slider clutch cars, with line locks, I had quite a few trans-brake cars too, over the many years & it was great for bracket racing, really consistent... my street/strip cars, the last few are just foot brake, simple, disc brake front conversions & manual valve-body trans, loose converter, drag radials, for what I was doing, they were just fine...
 
Don't need a trans brake with a stick car :D
