Trans cooler steel lines 727

Just a FYI, always rinse the insides of lines with gas or lacquer thinner to clean before installing. Also it has been my experience the SS lines have a tendency to leak at the flare. The SS is harder and doesn't conform to the fitting as well. I ordered SS gas lines for my 6bbl set up and it looked like a sprinkler system..... just my 2 cents

You found you answer before I read this. Yes 63 was the last year and may be one of the mid year things that Mopar is known for doing so some may,some may not. If the trans is original to the car,the inline filter trans pan will not have a recess stamped into the pan. When Mopar put the filter in the pan they added the recess for filter clearance.My 63 Belvedere had a inline filter.
Above it was mentioned about a Chevy fuel filter. The standard one(pre metric) took the 5/16 flare. I used that on a 63 Valiant. Cost was about $6.00. Flow tested it to see if there was any restriction,found none. Worked like a charm.

What is really weird and kind of backwards is that Chrysler put drain plugs on transmission pans until 1963. When they put the filter inside the pan, they omitted the pan drain plug. This makes no sense, as it is now a messy experience to service the filter.

Speaking of which, I'd like to replace my original pan..few dings, scrapes. Anyone reproducing it I wonder? Everyone is selling the deep pan with drain plug!

The secret to sealing SS lines is a dab of white Teflon paste on the flare and the thread. I know it sounds wrong. Thought the same thing 20 years ago. I couldnt get the stainless to seal. Was told this trick. In desperation I tried it. Been sealing them that way ever since. It flat works. Why? My bet is it may be lubrication. As for the new trans pans. A friend just got a new one from Frank Baldason.

Thanks dvw for that...I've ordered another "two " piece without filter set from In line Tube..they emailed me a return shipping label for the 3 piece w/filter set. You have to order the 65 up lines to get the right ones. Fine Lines actually spells it out in the desc with or without filter which clears up everything. Didn't know Frank was selling stock steel trans pans...Thank you!

I didn't have a drain plug in my '63 and installed one after putting in a shift kit. I wondered why given the mess to drop the pan. Mine also had an in-line filter that I dropped as well.
