Ok Gents, first post with a question. Ordered the engine saturday ('64 correct 426 Crossram hemi) from Eddie Haines for the 330, next is the trans. Does anybody here have an opinion regarding Tremec TKO 5 speed for this application. Not worried about gearing, that can be figured out later, more interested in shifter location for the hump and tips on what to look for when/if I go this route. Why not an A-883? Unless hter is one for sale somewhere, I'll likely use the Tremec.

thanks,
Mike

With the overdrive, youll be happy. I'm unsure if the shifter location is different, or if they offer something that will be close to the original. We like car ****, so post up whatcha got!!

i have a friend who put a tremec in a 68 gtx. the shifter handle came out a few inches to the right of the original location. i didn't care for the whole set-up. clutch linkage and shifter issues. Passon makes a 5spd on the 833 platform that puts the shifter in the stock location and all the factory clutch pieces work with it. the Passon unit would be my choice.

Thanks for the lead 184. I'll get ahold of Passon and check out their choices/options.

Will do, as soon as things start to show up. Will get the car sometime this week and the engine should be here the middle of July.

Did a BB and a TKO in a 65 Belevdere about 10 years ago.(Keisler)They made major improvements with them over the years.Shifter location,Better shift quality,Hydraulic release bearing,etc.451 stroker engine and a 3.73 rear.Ran a prototype of Comps"Thumper"cam as a test before they released them.Out of the box 500 Edelbrock on a MP dual plane intake and got 16-18 mpg.Car ran a 11.96 in street trim.
A little more info than you asked for,all in all I liked it, and as I said the ones out now are way better. Also did the Passion 4 speed overdrive same engine and rear in a E-body and that car got 20 mpg highway.Waiting to get my hands on their new 5 speed when it comes out.......Both good companies to work with.

Talked to Jamie over at Passon yesterday. He's going to put together a quote for the entire set-up, from the block face to the output shaft. Thanks for the lead and all the input on this part of the build.

I don't know if this helps or not but this is my 67 B Body with a TKO 500 5 speed.

I had to add a top plate that I got from Keisler to cover the original A-833 hole and provide more clearence for the trans on the passenger side of the tunnel hump.

i have the tremec in my hemi car. very slick set up but definitely not old school. i am using 3;90 rear and would go to 4;10 if doing over. i also went hydraulic clutch which eliminated a bunch of linkage points.

I have a TKO in my '64 and can't wait to get it out. Looking at some overdrive options from Passons.
