First let me say that I am not judging anyone...But looking for reasons why...

As I've been upping my attendance to car shows/cruise nights the last few years, and have won my fair share of plastic gold...I have noticed cars with back seats filled with old trophies...is it an ego thing? do the wives/girlfriends not allow them in the house? are there too many in the house and the only place left is the back seat?

Again, no judgment here...just would like to understand this phenomenon and/or trend.

People are entitled to be proud of their cars and accomplishments. However, bowling trophies from parking-lot shows don't do anything for me or most of my buddies. Major car shows, are another story. I'd rather have a decent plaque than a trophy, anyways. One of the coolest trophies I made a point out of retrieving[ an impatient friend HAD to leave], was at a Packard Historical Group show. It's unique and has history.

I am honest when I say "no judgment" yes they are entitled to show them off...I was just curious.

Happens here as well. They will also spread them out in front of the car also. I never understood that and always chocked it off to inflated ego's.

I have seen people get so irate at not getting a trophy and not placing well.....Sometimes they get into a word fight with the promoters. Absolutely, childish.....

Whenever, I go I pay the show fee but I do not enter the judging classes.....I got sick and tired of the comments and people asking me to enter another class. So one time I took them up on that offer and at a very popular show here I entered the "muscle car" class. Full of blinged out bowties and blowers and the charger spanked them. Funny, thing is the next year I was asked to stay in the "Mopar" class. After all that drama I rarely go to them anymore.....

My show moves with my foot on the gas pedal now....less drama and all fun!

Try being a judge at a show! Even the all Mopar non concours shows get a bit out of hand sometimes with people wanting to argue with ya. They are supposed to drive their car into the judging area and then step aside and into the area that's designated for the owner but a lot of them will come right back into the judging box and argue when they see the pencil start moving lol. Everyone starts out with 100 points and the marks are subtracted from it. "Well, when you have a double pulley alternator on a car without AC, what am I supposed to do? Look the other way. I mean, c'mon, it's sticking out like a sore thumb. Now will you please step back?" You might be surprised at how many show up like that and then still want to argue about it. After two years, I said no more. You sure get to see a lot of cars up close though but it's also a lot of work especially when it's hot out. At the end of a long day, you're ready for a cold one.....or a few!

There was a fist-fight over the biggest bowling-trophy, at the Romeo-Ford plant-carshow one year. The wrong trophy was handed out...and the guy wouldn't give it to the actual winner. They were rolling around on the ground/beating the **** out of each other.....over a 10-20 dollar bowling trophy.

Don't you just hate it when someone has a nice looking car and they fill up the interior with junk!

A friend of mine has a Chevy C10 that frequently wins awards (go figure). He takes off the engraved labels and donates them to the local cub scouts for awards for the pinewood derbys and the like. I was at a show recently where a guy with a nice 33 Plymouth coupe won best of show, we had to take the trophy apart to get it in his car.

Me, personally, I could care less about trophies. But we have shelves IN THE GARAGE full of trophies and plaques. She likes getting the trophies and hoarding them. Lol.
I guess people want to show how their cars have done or what they've accomplished.
If it's a trophy or plaque from a major show, good job. I don't really care to see something from "Billy Joe's Saturday Cruise" strung across someone's car.

Sometimes it is nice to get a little recognition of your work from your peers, but for the most part we go to shows just to hang out with friends. Awards are not important to me. I've seen some pretty pissed off people throw a fit if they aren't awarded, and I've seen cars that could win in multiple categories get nothing. If you go to shows just for the trophies or the "power parking" spot, you're missing out.

Personally, I could give 2 craps about judging and trophies.
I wasn't looking to be a judge but was asked. They were short and one of the other judges put my name in. After the 2nd year, I said no more please. I do not own any show trophies (just drag racing) and never entered any of my cars in any shows and yes, I've had worthy cars that would have been at least competitive.

As they say,,"To each his own" Some guys are chest thumpers,,others not.
I concur with post #6.

What he said. It's not like modern school where everybody gets a trophy. They are still EARNED at car shows at least. No matter how much you like or dislike the car.
My dad bought a 54 merc recently. The car came with at least 3 dozen trophies. One of them was from the Shell Rock Mopar Meet!
At first I was appalled, now I just find it comical. I'm guessing there weren't any Bees or GTXs at show.

I have received my share of trophies and some are just participation awards. I keep all awards in my home in a private area that I enjoy. I do not and will not brag or display them outside my home. I'm proudest of the awards received by the 72 Challenger. That car I rotisserie restored in honor of my father. That is why those awards are very important to me and always will be.

Everybody does the best they can, with what they have to work with. As much as some poo-poo the awards stuff......it doesn't stop them from taking their cars places to be admired. Let's face it....you could go hang with your friends, and leave the car at home...or in the spectator parking. I'm always happy for people who get and have things they've wanted and/or worked hard for. Doesn't matter if it's a clapped-out 4-dr....or a 1 of 1[LOL] national champ.
