Trying to buy this car....

Most any hobby is a money losing proposition. Boats,campers,MUD TRUCKS,traveling,golf etc all can drain the $$$$ from your wallet more than anybody wants to admit. The car hobby is a little different. The value holds a little better if done right. Over the top restos or ratty job building are the bigger risks but who really cares. Its a hobby. If you like it and can afford it why not. If you want to make money buy a shop and let others pay you to work on their cars...

I’m not in it for the money. But for the experience. So when I get finished I can say I built that and be proud. And I have a soon to be 10 year old and I want to bring him up in the hobby. What better way than with a project? It’s how I was taught by my dad and I want to pass down what I can.

I know where you are coming from. My GTX was a rusty wreck, but it was essentially complete. I couldn't afford one completely rebuilt (at least no way would take out a loan for one). So I bought it knowing the work it needed, which I budgeted throughout 15 months. I did everything myself except the block assemble and machine work. Including the car, I am in it for around $23-24k (and I am still adding small bits and replacing pieces). It is a driver so it isn't perfect but it is 100% drivable.

My point is do what you need to do to get into a Mopar, but you will spend a pretty good amount of money and time getting it fixed. Lots of time. And like you said and I agree, building one is as fun as driving one. I am almost bored now that my build is done....almost.

I'm thinking that anyone younger than 50 should not flaunt their age! Statements like "some days I feel older than 28" makes me stop and ponder about when I last felt like 28! Lol. The only bright spot in my near future will be a little more purchasing power for Mopar parts when I get my first Canada Pension cheque next month.....

Only reason I say I don’t always feel 28 is I’ve had a fair bit of medical problems in the past. I crushed my spine @ 16 racing dirt track. Had brain surgery @ 19 to remove a baseball sized cyst from the back of my brain. My bad knee from football which consist of a crooked kneecap lead to my dirt tracking. Got into power lifting tore my labrum in my hip couple years ago. I’m on my second marriage. Which is way better than my first. Got a ten year old son from my first. I’ve been through some stuff. And I feel like it’s aged me a little. I hurt most days. And according to the doctors the pain won’t go away and probably get worse. But that’s part of it I guess. I’m hoping that I have a long long time ahead of me pain or no pain. More time = more mopars

i agree it not cheap or easy, but it is a lot of fun.if you do all the work your self that helps a lot, and it also means you dont have to have all of the money to start.but have an good idea what you have to start .even more what you need .

I crawled all over my 67' Belvedere in the guys driveway. I found the left inner fender to be bad at the hood hinge, and the left rear spring hangar rotted. So OK the rest looked good. Little did I notice both rear leaf, front spring mounts also needed to be replaced, as does the trans cross member mount, where it attaches to the floor (been patched). The floor, frame rails and trunk are all good.

Well talked to him this morning. Says it’s too sentimental to sell. We talked about cars for an hour or so (on the clock) and he told me if he finds anything he’ll call me. Nice fella just not willing to deal. Said he’s going to do something with it when he has time. I hate to see a car rot like that. But I see them dang near daily. It is what it is. Maybe next time! Thanks for all y’all’s help and advice!

I do electrical inspections so I'm in and out of people homes all day long and I see it all the time and ask and same story, I'm going to do something with it someday. Bought only one car that way, or they thought they wanted double its value to get it.
