up early?...... or up late?

I'm still stuck on my old work hrs.
Our shop was in town local so I did not have to be up till 6:00.
I thought after we closed I would be sleeping in, ha ha.
No matter if I'm in bed at 11:00 or 1:00am I am still up at 6:00

I’m up early again with this head/chest cold hacking away for a half an hour clearing my nose and throat. I’ll fall asleep on the couch for a half hour or so sometime after 7:00 am.
The wife had to sleep in a recliner when she had Covid the first time. She coughed less and slept better partially upright.

This topic is interesting and quite prolific. Seems that most here who are confined to working these unusual hours are doing so with disregard for their health and general well-being. Humans are not designed to work nights, etc. but we all have to at some time of our working lives. Once that Circadian rhythm is out of sink, there is a large deterioration and after-effect to that. I have worked just about every odd hour of the day throughout my military career. Never worked shifts, but when I began my flying portion of it, I worked all hours a day, jumped numerous time zones, and the international date line, and sometimes I had no idea what the time of day was. Then try and get some ZZZZ's in while in another time zone, and it was impossible!!! After returning to home base, and getting back into that preferred time zone, back out to do it all over again. After retirement, I took a job where they put me on grave shift. After 2 weeks, I told my supervisor that this schedule was taking a toll on this 60-year-old body. He had the stones to tell me that I being a former military type, should suck it up!!! I got up, turned in my company badge, and left. That was the last working job I held. Because of all this flying, I now have health problems related to it. Sleep Apnea, COPD/Bronchial Asthma, and a constant need to pee at night. I usually hit the sack from 8:30 - 10:00 and get around 6 - 7 hours of interrupted sleep, and a power nap around mid-day. I do manage to drop back off to sleep immediately, pretty much after my pee issues. I do not watch TV all that much anymore and shut down the computer at 4:00 pm every day. No phone by the bed either. Being on one of those causes one to not be able to sleep because of the white light and their mind is not shutting down so they are either tossing and turning or staying up much too late. Hence the Night Owls we have here on FBBO. Now that many on here are older, we need to change those habits we still are accustomed to and begin a healthy transition to aging. Yet I do know that stubbornness will prevail and that many will keep on trucking on until??? cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

Go to bed between 11:30 and 1:00 and wake up between 5:30 and 6:00. Everyday, like clockwork!

Update. I just found out last night that my old 82 year old co-worker that they threw out in my post 35 has been getting paid ever since he got the boot! That puts things in a little different perspective for me. I now think that they don't suck nearly as bad as I originally thought! We do not know how long this is going to go on but damn, it does show that management really does give a ****, at least a little!
:p

That looks like you got BONKED by a 2 x 6 or something.

Going to bed early for me is before 1am. Often up til 2:30 am. I’ll sleep as long as I can but once awaken no matter the time I get up can’t just lay in bed hoping to go back to sleep. Usually up between 7:00- 8:00am. But if 5 or 6am comes around and I’m awake I’ll get up. I always use a little help from a non-habit forming or heavy sleep aid. Helps me get between 5 - 7 hrs. When I worked I was as irregular as a women w/PMS… I’ve only had one cup of coffee in my life when in Italy just to try it…. Nah…..
"I’ve only had one cup of coffee in my life when in Italy just to try it…. Nah….."

No wonder. Italian coffee
sucks.
Ain't nothin' better than a
cup o' Joe sittin' around the
campfire while planning the
hunt or fishing plans for that
morning. Frost chrystals
glinting in the morning sun,
mini vapor twisters rising
from a lakes' warmer than
air waters, first light
overlooking a pond full of
duck decoys.
Coffee is the catalyst.

I'm usually in bed 10-11pm. I'm usually awake at 4-6am. Really early today....another surgery this morning. I'm obviously dealing with some underlying anxiety.

Thx bro - I love it all …. Cept the last sentence. The truth is not really wether Italian coffee sucks or not - it’s my whole life starting as a kid waking up and the great smell of my dads coffee brewing in the morn. But I always got to thinking - hmmm dried beans in hot water… just doesn’t seem like something I’d like. So growing up, college cramming, insane work hours, hunting, fishing…. You name it I did it w/o coffee. Not until my last 10 yrs of work did I take on a secret sauce to get and keep my motor running….. Diet Pepsi… (yeah I know disgusting) Typically 2 liters a day during the work week, one on weekends. When I retired, I retired that habit too. I know it wasn’t good for me and don’t miss it… but it helped get me thru…… Now days my only refreshment is sparKling water - about 2 liters a day …. No caffeine at all…. Don’t really need it.

Retired trucker used to a 7 day per week, 80+ hour schedule.
