I'm looking at getting a vacuum pump so I can run whatever cam I want in my 440 RB motor and still have vacuum for my power brakes and I've been looking at what's out there. Seems a lot of the reviews rate the pumps as noisy, or some lack everything needed for an install so more money has to be spent.

Anybody have recommendations for a good vacuum pump please?

I've searched the Forum already, and found nothing explicit on the good brands/models. There's heaps of vacuum pumps by Hella, SSBC, Summit Racing brand, Comp Cams etc.

i would forget about a Vacuum booster and install a hydro Booster works off of the power steering pump, put one on my car about 3 years ago and just love it !!

For what you would pay for a decent vacuum pump that's not noisey or just another load on your electrical system, hydro boost is today's ticket. I use a system from a 2002 GMC 2500 diesel pickup ( from the auto recyclers ) that set me back $100 including the power steering pump. Brakes are absolutely fantastic and installation was quite easy. The donor vehicle which was disk up front and 11" drum out back made it a perfect match for my car with little to no re-engineering in respect to master bore size or proportioning valve for the rears. You could always go with a belt drive unit but this brings up issues with mounting brackets for the pump, pulleys, belts and long non-collapseable hoses not to mention the noise that high speed vacuum pumps produce. If your car does not already have power steering, an electric or belt drive pump may be your best recourse.
