I am going to be doing a coil over suspension on my 69 charger and wont be using the original 8 3/4 so i would like to sell it.It looks all original 489 case.complete brakes on both sides with all new shoes and wheel cylinders,I believe it is a limited slip but havent verified that yet....so what is it worth?

A big influence on your price would be if it is Sure grip or one wheel peel....Easy enough to figure out, see if the axle's spin in the same direction or not while turning the yoke in the front of the diff. Or spin a wheel if up and on the car and see if the spin in they same direction

A better way would be to put a bar like a jack handle through the lugs to keep one side from turning and take another bar on the other side and try and make the rear differentiate. Let the yoke hang free. If it's easy, it's not a SureGrip unless it's worn out. If you have to grunt, it's most likely a SureGrip in it. You can screw on some lug nuts to protect the threads for the test. Btw, I found one in a wrecking yard once that passed the test but when I pulled out the third member, it was all rusted up inside and locked up....and it was an open unit.....wasn't very happy about that lol

i understand how to test it,Im a mechanic by trade, just havent got it on the lift yet to do so.....what would the values be one way or the other?

I've seen prices for 3.55 SureGrips as high as 600 bucks. Imo, that's well on the high side. Cheap side would be 350. 3.55 and 3.91's usually command a bit better price than a 3.23 does. It just depends on who is wanting it. Cone type SureGrips usually bring a bit less than the clutch types. I sold a complete drum to drum 8 3/4 rear with 2.94's and open diff for 200 last year for example. Empty B body housings usually sell for about 100-125 which is on the high end around my area with 75 being more like it.

I bought a complete assembly out of a 70 Charger with open gear for $250.00

thanks guys ill try to get it on a rack today to see what it is
