Do the 440s come with one? I feel like a dumbass asking but I can't seem to find a answer

Thought it was a dumb question, I just can't seem to find any old stuff in my pile of old parts

thanks

I have never seen a tensioner on any Mopar bb, small block, yes.

Not calling anyone out, but I think someone is fooling with ya or just made a ginormous "doh"!!!

I got a little bit of an audible click on the first cold start up. Goes away. Chain? Any other way to diagnose?

Lol pick on the new tired guy who decided to try work in garage late last night!
Never built a big block before and now I'm still treading in new waters. So I guess next question is what does the cam shaft retainer plate look like if there is even one

I did did buy this motor all dissasembled, did all the machine work and slowly finding out I should have bought a spare motor with all the small stuff I am missing

So I'm lookin for this stuff last night tired, can't find them getting mad thinking I lost them, and they don't exist lol thanks guys

there is no retainer plate (because the counterclockwise spin of the oil pump drive tends to pull the cam into the block)

Bigman, that was some funny sh!t!!!

the cam stays positioned in the block due to the taper on the lobes (flat tappet cams only). if the cam bore isn't parallel to the crank bore then the cam can "walk" in the block.

Here's a picture. Note the slinger in front of the crank sprocket. Concave face towards the timing cover.
For the cam bolt Bellville washer the concave is toward the cam sprocket.

Lmao sorry man couldn't resist

All good. Last night I wasn't thinking you were so funny lol!! Today and after some relax time and a beer, I can work again.

Never done a dodge big block before so a lot of this that is not on a small block confuses me basically today now my motor will be complete besides few small things

Were you looking for a timing chain to reuse?

440 is a pretty straight forward v8, but has a handful of parts people forget about, fuel pump rod, dist drive and bushing, and rear main seal block to name a few. In a 440 I try to only reuse the block, heads, crank, and rods, everything else new (minus nice original intakes and covers of course...)

One thing you might consider on the timing chain...go to a double-row roller. Hand over fist better than the stock chain like in the photo.

Yeah, I know...wrong again!
