very hard to start

Old school guy here, and haven't fooled with the 'new and improved???' gas, yet.

You might be in line with this, but I've always done tuning, especially carb, while air temp is 70-75 degrees, dry day. Also always set carb mixture using a tach. But, of course, mixture needs to be set at idle, and that depends on the engine build, and set-up.
Yeah, I know these days are a bit different, with this gas...

I think I am very close.....fired up and with just a little right foot persuasion it stayed at idle by itself for a long time, next I will put the light on it and see where we go from there. Thanks all for your advice.

50 mile drive in 89 degree ambient yesterday. Shut car off for one hour. Engine still warm. Started instantly and ran for 2 seconds then died. Fuel starved. I'm convinced that the ethanol vaporized and emptied the bowl. Had to pump and hold with excessive spinning to start. Had a couple hiccups between shifts. Engine temp never went over 180. I'm gonna add Amsoil 100:1 to the fuel and bump up the idle by 100 rpm's. Can't believe that the choke has to be bumped under those conditions. No wonder these guys are going to FI. Maybe we are finished.

I got some stinking "winter blend" in the Satellite and it wouldn't idle worth a darn. I raised the idle speed and will need to feather the throttle until the next fill up. Lucas ethanol treatment will take minimize phase separation of ethanol-laced fuel. I also drip a drop of oil onto my accelerator pump shaft prior to putting her to bed for a few days.

I did get it to idle right up, but it still dies as soon as I put it in gear and put a load on it.

The other 65 race car that I just sold had no choke and always fired up instantly after 3 full pumps, and you could just walk away from it and it would just keep on running forever.
Since I just bought this one I am not yet all that familiar with it. the fuel is fresh 93, the carb is suspect as is the timing, however until it idles I can't really check timing.
67 coronet, I have the same intake as yours.
It is hard to start when cold, if it has warmed up it starts easy.
Any car that starts and runs cold with no choke is jetted to rich. Carburerted cars have a choke for a reason. Add to that a high over lap cam that has a low vacuum providing a weak signal to the carb and a cold Hot Rod engine won't idle.
