Video of a run

There's no way you should be on a 7000 chip at 139. Either the chip is low or the converter is incorrect/broke. In the video it looks like the rpm only falls back about 250 on the shift. My bet is the converter is to loose. With that much power an 8" isn't going to cut it.
Doug
Doug, I replayed the original video and upon really close inspection here are the shift points.
1-2, 7100 shift, dropped back to 6500....600rpm drop.
2-3, 7150 shift, dropped back to 6800....350rpm drop.
And like I posted in the other response, it is a 9" converter made by Continental down in LA. Although they are out of business now, he was THE GUY for mopar converters.

Doug, The converter is a 9". I had it out and measured it when I freshened up the tranny.
If it makes any difference (I don't know) the trans has an Aluminum Drum NOT a billet steel drum.

My black dodge had a 9" Neal Chance converter in it.
I wasn't impressed. It wasnt bad but it wasnt great imo.
Switched to a 8" and it picked up nicely all around.
I swear by 8" converters.

I think he needs to run it flat out wide open,9000 chip, no restriction on the carbs and see what he has. The carb restrictors and 7000 chip could be giving misleading information.
I agree...thanks and that is what I am going to do at my next test and tune in Feb along with correct tire pressure and wheelie bar settings and using the transbrake.

A 9000 rpm chip could be a disaster if something goes wrong running wide open for the 1st couple of runs, just my opinion. Might be ok for a 10 second car but definitely not for a 8 or low 9 second car. Huge difference in performance.

For sure none of us know enough about this combo. It puzzles me that the 2/3 fall back is so close. Continental has a good reputation. May be the high gear clutch is slipping? Or maybe its all good and the chip is causing scewed results. Id run it as is and sneak up the shift. I hope its a rocket.

Yes, no 9000 chip. I will put in a 7500 chip on first all out pass and see if it hits that chip much before the stripe and go from there...thanks.
I just had the tranny out for a complete checkout by the top racer torqueflite guy in my area. He said all the internals were in perfect condition. We upgraded the tailshaft housing...replaced the stock tailshaft housing with a tailshaft housing from a 1 ton Dodge pickup. That housing is same internal dimensions but it is about 40% thicker and many more reinforcement ribs. The output shaft on my tranny is a the "hardened steel" shaft (listed in the A&A website for $890).

Mike... put in a 7800 chip. The chips aren't that accurate and you probably will hit the limiter on a 7500 chip. I'm pretty sure you will go through the traps around 7500-7600.

after watching & hearing that video now (I didn't/couldn't see before)
it really sounds like it's on the chip almost the whole pass
only very early on & each shift was it not breaking up

could be my audio quality,
but it didn't sound happy up high

Yes, I hit the 7000 chip on the 1-2 shift and on the 2-3 shift and then it was on the chip for about the last 1000 feet of the run
