VIN - Broadcast sheet conflict?

Hello All,
I have been viewing this forum for a while (love the project threads!) but just recently created an account so I could get some help with understanding my VIN and Broadcast sheet.

I just started my first restoration project - a 69 Charger I bought out of Colorado and had shipped to me here in AK. If I am reading the VIN (XP29H9B337194) right, it should breakout:
X = Charger
P = Premium
29 = two-door Charger
H = 383ci 4bl V-8 335hp
9 = Built in 1969
B = Built at Hamtrack
The last six digits of the VIN should be the serial number: 337194 Title.jpg

As I bought the car without a trani and had my cousin pull the 383 before shipping, I was disappointed to not find a fender tag (the R/S fender had been replaced) or a Broadcast sheet (I looked under/behind the rear seat). I was hoping to find out about how the car had been originally assembled. But at that point all I had to go by was the VIN.

I have been stripping it down getting it ready for the media blaster.

When I pulled out the front carpet, what do you think I found taped to the floor pan under the passenger seat? You got it - one slightly mangled Broadcast sheet. I'll try to upload a copy 750px wide here. If you can't read it, I'll also try to put a copy at the original resolution here:http://www.akmat.org/Images/Misc2/BroadcastSheet_L.jpg

After checking around on some sites for the codes, it seems to me that the VIN and Broadcast sheet conflict with each other. For example, I can't find the serial number of 337194 anywhere on it. If "Sequence Number" on the Broadcast sheet is the same thing, then 137857 is a clear conflict.

Also, the Engine code shows E24, which should be a 225 1bb 6 cyl, but this conflicts with the previous 383 (unless we are all prepared to accept the notion that my mildly retarded cousin can't tell the difference between a 225 6 cyl and a 383 8 cyl :thinker:).

So, Mopar Gurus, having said all that - what do you think? Is this an improper VIN (the plate matches the title exactly)? Did the wrong build sheet somehow magically and mysteriously crawl under the passenger side carpet? Does my mildly retarded cousin get a free pass, and I am in fact the one who is just too jacked up to be able to read some simple codes?

Please help. I need it.

The wrong sheet quite often ended up in cars. Many people have found two or more sheets, all for different cars. I tore mine apart and found nothing.

Check your radiator core support and driver side trunk gutter-the VIN# is stamped in those 2 places. It should be the same as your VIN# on the dash and title. Let us know if they match.

Welcome aboard! If your drivers door is original there may be a shiny metallic sticker there as well with the VIN.

Welcome to the site. Like stated previously - the core support, trunk gutter, and VIN # are what you need to be concerned about. What are your plans for the car?

Yep sheet is from a Dart.

My car had a sheet from a different car with the same color and style interior.

Fortunately it also had the correct sheet, as well as a few oddball sheets that apparently no one has seen before.

If your VIN matches the numbers on the cor support and trunk lip, at least you know you have a factory H code Charger. Take pics to document the options and colors, in their original/current condition.

MoparBill: Good call! the stamped VINs match the dash plate and title...looks like the wrong Build Sheet got placed in the car.

tallhair: No luck with the metallic sticker - but thanks for the suggestion!

hunt2elk: love your work! I've been following your "1969 Charger R/T resurrection" thread. My plans for the rest of this summer are to finish stripping the car and get it mounted on a rotisserie I'm having barged up from Seattle. Then I'll make an appointment with our local media blaster. He'll come over and blast it on site. Prior to school starting in Aug (I teach at a local HS) I'll get the car trucked over to the guy who will be doing the sheetmetal and body work for me. He'll probably work on the car between his other jobs for most/all the school year. I'll have plenty to do with cleaning and restoring parts that I can + saving up to purchase those that I can't or just want to upgrade. Then I'll pick it up again next May.

By the way: did you ever settle on a color for your car? I haven't checked recently.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and help. I guess the only down side to all of this is that my idiot cousin gets off the hook for confusing a 6 with an 8 cylinder. Part of me was really looking forward to that conversation. :poke:

On a final note, does anyone know of ANY way for me to try to track down this Dart? Is there a registry somewhere or anyway to try to locate the car/owner? The car may well not even exist anymore, but if I could, I'd like to try to get the owner the build sheet - just on the off chance he's a car guy and it might mean something to him. Thanks!

Well, you could try FABO for a start. :)

Well - I thought I was getting close, but now I'm not so sure. I'm blaming this recent possible change in plans on Propwash and his gorgeous black RR. Good thing I'm not in any real hurry. lol

Post the VIN for the Dart on the "lost and found" forum on FABO.

I've posted one on FBBO, saying if you senf me a pic of the VIN tag, I'll send you the BC sheet.
