I bought a 1969 Roadrunner. I got to checking #'s and the Vin # at dash, the fender tag and radiator support # all match the Vin #, but the # on trunk lip does not match. Can that be a problem.
Steve

Make sure you are reading the VIN stamping on the trunk lip and not the other number stamped into it. My Runner has another number embossed into it as well.....maybe quarter panel P/N? Never figured out WTF it was for myself.

either someone replaced a full quarter panel including the trunk gutter with a used piece ( I did this to my own car in 1989 before I knew about the number )............. or in a worst case scenario, someone put the core support on a different car, IE "rebody"

Is the car restored? What are the specifics on the car you purchased? plain jane bird? six pack? Hemi?

I'd be eyeing up all the spot welds, or lack thereof in the 2 areas........

back in the day, rear clip replacement was also a common repair to cars that got *** ended

You are correct. It looks like part # because it says 204 300 on one side and 204 301 in the same spot on other side. Exactly where is the matching vin located on the trunk lip. Thanks in advance for the help

under the weather strip, drivers side..... you may be able to see it from the bottom side without pulling up the rubber

Exactly what ElDubb said.....should be directly under the rubber weatherstrip, about halfway up the lip. Mine I cannot see from below but some were punched deeper than others.

On the driver side trunk lip mid way between and below the weatherstrip. They are not usually punched deep.....
