Nice video/run Bob

good luck, the space should help a smidge too
it's almost free hp

I gathered a lot of info at test n tune today.
The short story is that even though the dyno liked the spacer, the track didn't . Not today anyway.
I started with 98 jets and a 2" spacer.
First pass it stumbled and went 10.16@ 134.32.
Next I took off the spacer and kept the jetting the same.
It ran 10.05@ 134.02. Still stumbled a bit off the line.
3rd pass I jetted down to 96s.
It went 9.90 @ 136.46.
The last pass I left everything the same but I stuck the air cleaner on.
9.85 @ 138.37 !!!
I wish I had a little more time to play, but I'm not giving up on the spacer.

Nice run Bob

there's more in her too :bananadance:

sounds like it's still lean,
if it picked up with the only change being the air-cleaner
running a 9.85 @ 138 that's easily high 9.60's MPH

good luck in the future

I'm predicting a 9.70 or maybe a 9.65 in your future
with good conditions & proper tuning
the 60' alone can be 0.15 quicker, that'd get you there & then some
don't give up on the spacer either

doesn't look like the front end is coming up at all, if so not much
not transferring weight (spin)
shock or bar settings maybe {?} not knowing exactly what you have now

couldn't tell the stumble, it looked like you rolled the lights
didn't sound like it was on the converter {?}
(I have bad speakers maybe, usually not the case thou or poor phone video/audio, quality)
in the 10.15 pass video above

I thought your foot missed the ‘go’ pedal at the beginning. Awesome!

The third pass I leaned it out and ran better. Picked up 2 mph. Then picked up another 2 mph with the air cleaner.
The front end isn't coming up because I have about 120 passes on my tires. Lmao
That's next on my list.
It was also stumbling off the line. Ill clean the carb out real good this week.
The old setup liked to leave off idle so thats what i was doing with this.
Ill try getting up on the converter with this setup.
More tnt.

So it's been 18 loooong months since I've been in an actual race. I have been at test n tunes but that was just to get re-aquainted.
I am now running in a Nostalgia club where I can't run under 10.0.
First race was today.
I retarded timing 2 degrees and slid my throttle cable a bit forward so I wasn't getting full throttle.
First pass went 10.17 131.
Spun pretty badly with a 1.52 60.
Lowered air pressure next pass and had 1.47 10.14 132.
I have been tickling the rev limiter @ 6800 with a 7200 chip for some reason.
Next pass I put a 7400 chip in and got a clean pass.
No changes from previous run and went 9.97 135.
Those were my freebies.
1st round eliminations I moved my throttle cable a tiny bit again.
I guess this is tuning by the seat of your pants.
Dialed 10.05.
I forgot to mention that up until today that I totally disregarded the reaction time.
Today I had a .083, .045, .060 in my time shots.
I was ok with those.
First round and I go -.018 red.
I ran 10.08 @ 129 on a 10.05 dial.
The car ran good, I lifted at the stripe even tbough I knew I already lost.
I was pretty happy with everything today.
We'll see what happens next.

Bob
Sounds like you have a pretty good feel "seat of the pants" tuning

sucks not being able to run quicker than 10.0 with that new combo
sucks red-lighting too

have fun either way, that's what it's all about

good luck & Happy Moparing

So I've been out racing every weekend this year weather permitting.
Im finally back being comfortable in the car going through my routine.
When I first got out with the new combo, I had an bit of a stumble at the line but got that figured out. Then there was what appeared to be a lean pop about mid track that was giving me fits.
I still managed to get a 9.85 and near 139 mph.
This was at Island dragway which is the fastest track for me anyway.
I haven't been back to Island since then.
I have been to Lebanon Valley Dragway a couple times which is actually the slowest track for me. The track prep is great, I just can't back up the numbers that I run everywhere else.
The first time at LVD, I was running 10.0's and 10.1's @ 132ish.
Still had the "pop" going on.
I had a rainout weekend so I ohm'd my wires, checked cap rotor and finally plugs.

I found a cracked spark plug which i evidently smashed while installing the headers.
Changed the plug and went back to LVD.
First pass went 9.88 134.69.
Guess I found the problem.
I didnt expect that.
Since I don't have my nhra comp license yet, I decided to pull 2 degrees of timing. Trying to go 10.0.
Well, I guess contrary to what the dyno said the car liked 34 degrees of timing, or the air got a lot better.
It went 9.87 @134.95.
I went into the first round of racing and dialed 9.87. Air was noticeably worse. Hotter and more humid.
I broke out.
Ran 9.85@ 134.99.
After the race, I had my chassis certified so Ill be making my license runs hopefully this week.
I have to find my island timeslip and post a side by side to show the difference between almost identical e.t. slips.
Can't wait to open this thing up!
