some of my old small parts that I've been putting off for way too long to clean up; BB valve covers, BB timing cover, trunk torsion bars, rear seat arm rest tins, BB GTX original fan, and some more stuff, well, I found it way interesting that the old paints and rust came off the valve covers more easily than the oily goo sludge on the inside! I was like WTF! How can this oil gunk be harder to remove than rust? Lesson to take to the bank; use good and high quality oils!

Donny;it's magic goo. I do (glass) bead blasting here, and the @#$% never seems to come all the way off. That's why I love me some carb cleaner! I buy in bulk, just cuz I go through so much!

Just an fyi, Carquest sells some stuff called "purple cleaner" and it takes stuff like that off like I've never seen. Just as good as carb cleaner at least on the stuff I did.

Yep, that stuff contains sodium hydroxide, which is a caustic. Eats organics like crazy. Just don't soak your hands in it! It's not Palmolive...

Lacquer thinner & a wire brush works well also, sometimes.... Just My Opinion... In older non-synthetic oils... If your getting oil sludge build up, on the inside of your engine, either you or the previous owners are not changing the oil often enough resulting in burnt & baked on & carbon-ed up oils, or they/your using bad cheap crap oil blends {Pennziol & Quakers State are notorious for that stuff}, or the oil is getting too hot for the type conditions of oils being used {wrong grade, additives or viscosity}...

All good points, my next oil change in my Challenger is NOT anything but Royal Purple. But, I've been using Quaker State from the dealer's oil change deals, I am certain the modern QS is far better than the old QS, and that Purple stuff works really good!

:iamwithstupid: your probably correct about QS being better than it use to be & the Royal Purple stuff, I use in my 99 4x4 5.2ltr. auto Dakota, I have been very satisfied with, all engine oils, trans fluids & gear oils, so far, for about 10 years now...

The reason for this is because the gunk absorbs the impact of the pressure blasting unlike the thin coating of rust or paint that is much easier to remove with the blasting regardless what you are using to blast with.

The purple stuff seems like Castrol Super Clean in a different bottle:blob1:

If you wanna find out I still got some original QS in the cans in the garage....some pennzoil too.
