Five Guys Down To Just Two Guys After California Minimum Wage Increase

ALEXANDRIA, VA — California's minimum wage hike claimed another victim this week in the popular fast-food burger joint now formerly known as Five Guys. Following a massive round of layoffs, the fast-food restaurant is now down to only two guys.

"We had to let go of Chad, Ben, and Tyler. Now it's just me and Matt," said Jim Murrell, one of the original five guys. "Which sucks because Matt is really annoying."

"Business was good," said Matt Murrel, the other guy. "But then we opened up locations in California and our costs went through the roof."

The two remaining guys reportedly discussed closing up shop in California entirely but didn't want to give rival In-N-Out Burger the satisfaction of watching their retreat. "It's worth fighting In-N-Out even if it tears our family apart," Matt said.

Earlier in the year, Ben Murrel had expressed concern about the rising costs of doing business in California. "Something's gotta' give," he said during a budget meeting. "I propose we cut the portion size of french fries. No one can eat all of them anyway." Ben Murrel later became the first guy to lose his job. The other four guys promised to never cut french fry portions, even if it meant laying off Tyler, which they eventually did.

Now, with only two guys left, are there any regrets? "No," said Matt Murrell. "We got a robot that handles everything they used to do."
Two Guys Burgers & Fries launches its worldwide rebrand this fall.
Chip in on a burger and pass it around. No cheating, just one bite and pass it on......... For ten dollars more I can sit down and be served, no more outrageously priced, slow, fast food for me. Talk about the dumbing down of America. Insane!!

Hi, Ulli. That's exactly what I told the girl at our local A&A when she said $31 for two fries and two burgers, no drinks. I replied I would put $10 with that and eat at a real restaurant!

Hey Dave!
It was great for a quick bite on the way home on some of those long days. Seriously, now I feel like they think I'm stupid. @Triplegreen500 is right, but sometimes it's just nice to have someone do the work for you. Talk about Cooking at home, did you see all the recalls on different foods lately. This one is $19.00 a pound for their ham and they throw in Listeria and the protein you get from the bugs for free. Bugs, mold and mildew found in Boar's Head plant linked to deadly listeria outbreak ... Nothing is a given anymore, except, smaller portions and more expensive. Crazy!

I just went to Wendy's yesterday at lunchtime because I forgot my lunch for the first time in so long I can't remember when I had fast food and they were closed??? At lunchtime??? I am sitting at the speaker to order and a woman comes out the back door and yells we are closed and shut the door.

I went to the Longhorn last evening with two friends. We all got the same thing; an 8oz sirloin, two sides, bread and a Coke each. Cost with tip was 31 bucks each, which today is a cheap dinner out.

That's why we support local (mennonite) butchers. Excellent quality, local raised, and super economical. Preserved the old fashioned way - salt and smoke.

I've hired many Mennonites to help work on my lake property's in the past. Hard workers and honest by nature. I've eaten in their restaurants many times.
