What a Jackwagon! So I have my 71 Road Runner on Ebay and the car has not met its reserve.Well anyway this Jackwagon calls me and says what do you want for your car?He says I guess you probably want top dollar right? And I said I don't know what is top dollar? He says I have been following these cars for some time and totally restored cars are bringing 17K-18K.Where he finds totally restored cars for 17K-18K I don't know.Maybe at times you can find a deal.I said no I want a little more than that.He said I was thinking around 13K.Then I was rude and started laughing at him.He said well I seen a really nice car on Ebay sell for 10K,I said I guess you should have bought it.Then he says I need to be at 13K to make any money because I plan on flipping it!
What a Jackwagon!!!!
I know a lot of Mopar Guys hate flippers but I make money on just about every Mopar I have ever sold. You just have to make sure you buy the right car for the right money so you can atleast get your money back when you sell.So am I a flipper? I have also parted a few cars and made alot of money off them.I do not mind flippers at all you can not blame a Guy for trying to make a little money. As long as you are not putting some little old lady through the ringer. But this Ahole is just a Jackwagon! LOL
I bought a 64 Polara a few years ago.It was a CA and rustfree.I had to get a title for it and I got it running.I paid $500.00 for it and had about $800.00 in it all together. My buddy told his Dad about it because he always wanted one.I was asking $2500.00 for it and that was a great deal.My buddys Dad was all pumped up and ready to buy it, until he found out I paid 500.00 for it.I asked my buddy why his Dad changed his mind?He said because his Dad said.." I am not going to let him make money off me!"But his Dad flipped 2-4 cars a year.If its something I want and the price is right I could careless if someone is flipping a car.

OK I am done....LOL

I have to agree with everything you just said especially the last part about your friends Dad. What you paid for something is totally irrelevant to the discussion ... its worth what its worth.

I am to the point where I say screw it and keep it.I really do not want to sell it anyway.Just work slowed way down and its very hard right now to make ends meet.I have already turned down 20K more than once.

You're at the right price for your car, Jim. In fact, I think it's a good deal. I wish I had it to offer.

I hate people telling me what I have to sell MY car for!? I had a guy tell me that I had to sell him my car for half what I was asking for the same reason, he needed to double his money. Like that matters to me????? It's my car and I'll sell it for what I want for it, if not I'll keep it!

So I feel for ya!

You guys must be dealing with Richard Rawlins....that guy from Fast and Loud :)

ugh, I was watching that show earlier... quit watching cause of his "haggling skills"

what a piece of crap...

"this will be an EASY 6 figure car"

and then asks 1/2 what the guy was asking, same episode he got a bb 73 challenger off of a guy, interior was shot, but car looked decent otherwise, offered the guy 1/2 of what he was asking....

over the years i've found that "...anything is worth only, what someone will pay..." if it's worth more than that to you; keep it.

I probably would have just hung up on the guy after he made me a stupid offer or maybe called him a jackass and hung up. I don't think I need to waste my time with people like that.

I have had a few do that on parts I was selling locally. One was a 4.7 block from a Dakota. I picked up the whole engine (needed a crank and rod) for a song and I needed the heads so I posted the block for sale for $100 clearly stating it was partially dissembled and I was keeping the heads. A group of guys show up in a pick up truck (no disrespect here but 3 mexicans 2 of which only speak spanish) after an hour drive and seem all flustered that it isn't an engine just ready to put in the car and then try to bust me down on price because they didn't "understand" it was torn apart. I said I guess you will have to go home then....they paid my asking price.

Another time I was selling a complete 4.7 out of a durango I parted (again needed a crank and rod since it spun a rod bearing). This guy I could barely understand on the phone calls up from 3 hours away and wants to know if it will fit in his 2003. I very clearly explain yes but you will need a new crank and to put it in a 2003 would need a new cam tone ring. Guy shows up and trys to beat me down on price further again I tell him no, you can go home...pays me full price and about 3 more times I explain to him about needing to change the crank, rod, and cam tone ring for it to run in his vehicle. Guy calls me a week later, I put it in the truck, why won't it start?....he never changed the crank or tone wheel and just put in a bearing (which I had tried and it failed because the crank was egged and i told him that too)...so I laughed, told him he was an idiot and hung up.

"Flipper" has such a negative connotation to it.

I myself, will buy a car if I can get a deal on it and will clean it up and resell it (ex 69 Charger last week).
I do not live off of any profit, which usually isn't alot. If I can make between $700 and $3000, then so be it.
it was worth $3000 more to the next guy, or maybe I did some work on it and made some sweat equity on it.

My point is, there is nothing wrong with buying and selling a car with integrity. Any profit I make typically goes right into
a project (house or car), most of the time its the car. haha. But yeah,,, I agree, don't call me and offer me half of my asking price.
I've experienced that and found out, they are dealers most of the time,, not a (flipper) or in my case and avid hobbiest who fuels his
hobby this way.... I will make up an acronym for it.

Negotiation Skills..... & selling a car only if you can negotiate well. Negotiation is an art of getting what YOU want without aggravating the other person.
be nice....when you make the sale & close, then you can throw a few jabs! at the jerk:jerk:

I don't know why people get all bent out of shape when offers are made. Guys (and gals) low ball me all the time and I just say "no thank you" if it's too low or I'll counter offer if I feel a deal can be made. Like someone already said - an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay and someone is willing to sell it for. The value of a car is never set in stone, there is no "rule" or "law" that dictates a value. It's the negotiation process that sets the value. I think that people get offended all to often when a simple "no thank you" would suffice. If the price is set too high you'll find out soon enough. If you don't negotiate well just put "PRICE IS FIRM - NO OFFERS" in the ad then blast away when someone ignores your mandate.

Then he says I need to be at 13K to make any money because I plan on flipping it!

Maybe it was the '*** Monkey'?(!) Just think, you could have had your 15 seconds of fame and been on his show! Sorry...couldn't help myself.

Some folks are passive, ready to pounce on a good asking price while others are active, and ask for a good price. Depending how often he gets an, "Okay, I'll do that deal.",he might do well for himself. Don't waste your time being offended about it. Good luck with the sale.

HELLOOOOOO !!!! This is the U S of A. We live in a CAPITALIST system, i.e., making profit. As long as it is done ethically, there is nothing wrong with buying something and reselling it for more. How do you think this great country was built? Unless you want to emulate the Soviet Union or Communist Chinese (I know some of our "leaders" wouldn't mind that), buy low sell high !!!!! Do you think any company that wants to stay in business sells something for what it costs them? DUHHHHHHHHH !!

I was not bent out of shape.More like what a Jackwagon to just come out and low ball a Guy and then say I am low balling you to flip it.He really needs to work on his flipping skills. If I had to sell it I could have already for 20K, but I am holding out for a little more.Maybe later if things get worse for me I might take 20K.

Absolutely nothing wrong with holding out. A phrase I probably use much to often is "Everything is for sale; how much money do you have?". A seller and buyer will eventually settle on a price and holding out for your price is a great option. In this economy there are far too many people in a bind and willing to sell their cars for way under what's thought to be market value. This is why there seems to be such an abundance of "low ballers" out there - ESPECIALLY with the anonymity of the internet to hide behind. There are just SO many steals to be had. Good luck with the sale and definitely hold out for a price that makes sense.

This probably describes me. I review my local craigslist daily and have ebay set to email me on certain keywords. I try to keep up with trends and values so when I see a deal pop up I "pounce" as you say it. Many times I buy things that I really have no interest in but seem like a deal that I can sell either immediately in another venue or fix up / hold onto and sell later. To me it's no different than the stock market - many times a lot more profitable than my stocks lately. Being in the right place at the right time with the right money is always a great feeling.

I have people tell me they can't afford what someone is asking for there car all the time, and it's a fair price. I tell them you might not be able to buy it for that, but you can sure sell it for that in a month or two.

Tell him they sell the Plymouth Valiant's two doors down...Don't get bent up about it, just don't waste anymore of your time with him and the matter.
