When I was in the planning stages for the red car, I wanted to go with larger diameter wheels and lower profile tires. In the early 2000s, the 20" wheel craze was just gaining steam. A nice '68 GTX was making the rounds at the shows out here on the West coast. He went with a 20 x 8 Rear wheel and an 18 x 8 front. I didn't like the really short sidewall or narrow width of the wheels on the car.
For me, I wanted wheels as wide as I'd have if I was running 15s but a bigger diameter wheel would allow me to run a shorter sidewall for crisper handling.
I went with an 18 x 9 front and an 18 x 10 in a style that reminded me of a modern version of a classic design...

I know that for many classic car owners, anything over a 15" wheel is a sacrilege.
I look at it different.
