Well, I changed out the 3+ year old Optima Red Top battery in my wife's GTO (Mopar activity is related, so...) and I was going to get a Duracell AGM to replace it, just because of price and availability. The Optima is about $210 and the Duracell about $140. The Sam's Club website "in stock/out of stock" indicator was doing weird stuff, and I wasn't driving 2 hours round trip on a hunch. I was wanting to go to a longer lasting AGM battery with similar CCA levels, and posts that would work with the cable connections I needed. I happened to have an Optima Blue Top Marine DUAL purpose battery, and it fit perfectly in the GTO battery tray, so I threw it on the charger and VIOLA! It worked out fine. I also went to Harbor Freight and got 2 of those negative battery terminal quick disconnect setups, one for the GTO and Roadrunner. Both cars have had Dakota Digital gauge systems and modules installed and now both have electronic circuitry that places a draw on the battery even when the key is off and out, so now no power drain when I twist the green knob on the disconnect. I think all of the various settings are flashed on the DD circuitry, so all that will have to be done is setting the clock in each of our DD dashes.
I just don't trust ANY battery charger to leave it hooked up all the time.
Anyway, I took the 421GOAT out for a short drive, cooling system temps were "ok" around 190-200° but with a 180° thermostat I definitely want to see cooler running temps.
Since the GOAT got to stretch her legs, I figured I'd let the Roadrunner out for a quick sprint too. Took it for about a 15-20 minute round trip ride on a long backroad I have by my house. Stopped just before I got home for two 1st/2nd gear WOT launch runs. It felt a bit weak on the first one but not so bad on the second. I'm going to install the quick disconnect on the Roadrunner tomorrow.
