My last B body was a '65 Belvedere street wedge about 35 years ago. I've been play with the A bodies since. I found a '62 Belvedere wagon with 318 poly. Will be making it into a NSSA car with a 440. Are there any funky traits that I need to know? Front suspension, headers, switching over to the RB, brakes, rear. etc? Thanks

Should be real similar to the 65 other than most 62's had different motor mounts and K-frame than 63-5. Can be really hard to find BB mounting brackets to fit this K-frame and no one makes them. May be easier to swap for a 63-5 K-frame.

PM me if you need any fiberglass parts, I make all of them including the tailgate and 3 sizes of Max Wedge scoops.

You just need to know that you now own a very cool car !! Ron

If you're going into it that deep, there really isn't anything crazy. Shock towers are wide enough, std. torsion bar/unibody set-up, same basic rear end mounting options, same basic body shell (just looks a little different). The '62-65' platforms are basically the same for the B bodies. Keep up posted!! :) BTW. personally not a big fan of Schumacher. There are guys out there that can fab the correct mounts on any K-frame you have, or they supply. That is if you don't want to do it yourself. Al Debevic comes to mind.

Personally, I'd swap to the later B body rear without nutted axles.

Late model (66-70) K-frame will slide the motor back. This is good because the fan to radiator clearance is tight. These cars came from the factory with a 413 option so BB fit easily. Trans tunnels are tight I cut them open and make the tunnel 2" higher 4" wider. All suspension is the same except the idler arm matches the year K-frame being used. Just like any other B-Body trimming the K-frame is good for pan clearance and removes weight. These pics are from a 64 but will give you an idea.

Thanks for the info. Are there special headers for this year. Did a simple search and only 63-65 was listed.

TTI sells several flavors of BB headers for 62 B bodies
