What do you think of these ratio's (Viper tranny)

Hell yes, nice score! Send it over to me I'll test it out for ya haha. I like where this is going!

You didn't happen to get it from X2 Builders did you?

I honestly didn't even get their name just the phone # and name of the guy I'm dealing with. I made a few phone calls and it seams $1,500 is the common price among the salvage yards. If anybody is interested I have the # to a few places that have them for that price. Now if I can just figure out how to plum your Supercharger into my shaker scoop????:thinker:

Sounds like a great thread, can't wait. I like your thinking, fairly economical, some fab work and you end up with a bullet proof setup.

Thanks, All I can say is it sounds FUN!!!!!

I had seen them for 1500 with the bell before so I knew it was a touch premium. You don't think I put my 5 speed in without researching do ya now.... :icon_thumright:

Not you, You've got one hell of a car. As far as I'm aware the only one who makes the bell housing (RM-8073) is Quicktime and it's not cheap (the 2nd biggest item).

Am I imagining things as I believe even the Viper manual trans is computer controlled. Last person I talked to very seldom used first 2 gears and ran top end in 5th. Lost to much power in 6th due to gearing. Just can not justify the 3 grand for something not driven every day. That and with a Missouri antique life time plate and 2500 mile yearly limit 3 grand will buy a life time of fuel.

Standard, computer controlled???? I can justify, I wouldn't buy antique plates for mine because I'd go well past the allowed mileage in short order. Mine gets driven aaaaaaaaaaaaaallot and will be driven even more once I get an overdrive. On top of that I like a little spirited driving as well so the low gears should be fun.

You are referring to the skip shift solenoid. Under normal driving 2 and 3 are blocked by th pcm. Not a big deal to get around it

Well the other option is a stock viper bell. The v10 uses a small block bolt pattern....which for me would work since my hemi runs the same pattern. Big block boys get to make friends with quicktime

I may have jumped ship already? I originally was going to buy a new T56 but then after comparing it to the TKO 600 (5 speed) I began to think the TKO was the better route (no chopping and same overdrive ratio minus an extra gear to get there) but the total cost steered me towards the Viper trans in the end. I came across a great deal on a TKO 600 that comes with everything so I'm going that route now, in the end I like the .64 ratio better than the Vipers .50 and now can afford it although I really would have liked the single rail shifting of the Viper.

So where is this t56 you were going to buy?

If your referring to the Viper trans it's in Wisconsin but there's another in Indiana (also $1,500) and another for $1,800 in Sacremento. If you want #s PM me. All were around $150 shipping

The Viper bell fits the Iron v-10 in the trucks, not the small block pattern. Been down this road already. lol FYI

See now I had read that the v-10 used the small block pattern for a bell housing.

Viper 8.0/8.3 liter LA-series V10 (This engine has similar bolt patterns to the LA/Small Block except that the top holes on the Aluminum V10 will not align with any other LA/Small Block transmission.)
Ram Tough Magnum LA-series V10 (This Engine has a bolt pattern that does not match any other Chrysler/Dodge, it WILL NOT bolt up to any other transmission other than the iron block V10.)

O.K here we go again! The TKO ended up not being for me so I already sold it and will be ordering everything necessary for the Viper tranny install in short order. I'll be sure to start a thread giving the complete parts list and cost along with all of the chopping and screwing things up. Sounds like allot of fun to me:headbang:

Did you find a Viper tranny to purchase? Looking forward to the build thread, with the holidays coming up there might be a little shop time in the near future?

Yeap, the same salvage yard I was going to buy it from the first time around is pulling one out right now (they specialize in Vipers). Getting the pigtail, slip yoke, slave and master cylinder now I need to figure out what the best clutch setup would be?

Too bad that TKO didn't work out but since the T56 was your first choice anyways I'm sure it will all work out for the better. I'm eager to watch this come together to see if this may be a more cost effective viable option for me than the Passon

It's been a while since I've been on the forum here, I've been focusing on some other business ventures lately, but finally have some time to start dedicating tou mopar addiction again! I haven't driven my car yet but have done all of the fab work and fitment to get the Viper t56 into my 71 GTX. There is quite a bit of cutting necessary to fit it in. Feel free to PM me if you run into any road blocks, I might be able to help out. Have fun with this one, it'll be well worth it in the end.

I appreciate the offer, it's always good to have somebody to bounce ideas off of and I'm sure something will pop up. My biggest things right now is deciding on components, I'm pretty sure I'm going with a McLeod single disc clutch rated for 550hp but that's it. Would love to find a master cylinder that's more auto parts store available and not $250-$500 like some of these ridiculous aftermarket ones. I'm just getting ready to start ordering everything now that Christmas is done so I'll be starting a thread within a week or 2. Thanks
