What Happens When a Rivian EV Runs Out of Battery Charge?

A friend of mine bought one a few years ago and sold it immediately. It was painfully S-L-O-W.
I'm SURE it is! Fast is not a problem, I can drive something fast. I would like to haul a few things from California to Arizona and get 40 or 50mpg while doing it. Don't care how long it takes to get there, if it'll do 70 on I-40, I'm okay with it.

Therein lies the problem. Yeah, it was a diesel with a small cargo box but it would barely do 60 on flat ground when empty and it took a LONG time to get there. It was a NON turbo model.

I'm not sure there even was a turbo diesel model rabbit. But 60mph on I-40 won't get it done. 45mph on the long truck lane grades would be even worse.
Shopping continues.....

I worked with a guy that bought a converted VW Rabbit pickup. It had a Jetta turbo Diesel with a Bio-diesel conversion. He had to start it and shut it down on regular diesel but in between he ran cooking oil he got from Chinese restaurants. I don't recall the mileage but this guy was a CHEAPSKATE so it was probably good. He bought it on ebay and flew out to Pennsylvania to buy and drive back to Woodland, CA.

MotorTrend named the Rivian TOTY in 2022, one of many reasons I cancelled my subscription. TOTY for a truck you can't take camping (or anywhere remote) and can't haul or tow anything more than a 100 miles or so without needing a recharge.

Back in the 80s, I pulled into a station with my gas p/u truck, told the attendant to fill it up. I happened to look back and notice that he was pumping diesel. He had already pumped about a third of a tank before I stopped him. We topped it off with gas and I drove it. Wonder what would have happened if that truck was a modern day gas truck. With all the technology now, who would dare drive it before draining tank. I kind of liken that to trying to make bad things happen as described in that article.
I fairly recently took a ride in a R1S. Five of us in the vehicle, a total of about 1000 lbs. vehicle weight close to 7000. Wet country road no traffic, light rain. We got from 0-60 in under 4 seconds, not saying top speed, but impressive.
I’m not in the market for an EV and most likely will never own one, but it is probably not going away.

I have a 2019 VW Jetta that I bought as a relatively inexpensive commuter car. My commute to work is mostly country roads with only a few stop lights or stop signs. I drive between 45 and 55mph the whole way. It is 26 miles each way to work. The Jetta will average 50-55mpg on the drive (at least according to the onboard computer).
Not good enough, planet paluter!! Trash that smog box and get an EV! Think of the children!
Says every WEF sheep in the country.

I don't think anyone really wants them to go away.
I think a lot of people don't want to be told they MUST buy one and have all other options outlawed.
There is a pretty big difference.
