What harness to buy?

I want to get a complete car harness kit for my '73 satellite. after poking around the last month, under the dash is a COMPLETE mess, and all throughout the car there are corroded, split, or exposed wires.

So... What company's complete car harness do you recommend and why? I have looked at painless... I hear yearone makes one... Who else has them? What should I go with?

Thanks for the heads up on M&H, I looked at their website, I think this is what I will go with for sure. Looks real good. Wont be for another month or two, but once I get my garage together so I have a place to work I am gonna start replacing all the electrical on the thing.

M&H, as the others have posted is the way to go and well worth the cost. They have harnesses available with upgraded wires if you switched over to HEI.Don't forget to order new underhood wire straps too. If you are just replacing the wiring and not tearing down the car it is easier to replace one wire harness at a time. I replaced all the wires in a friends car with the M&H and it was an easy install. Before installing pictures were taken around headlight area and any area wires passed through body so they could be put pack in the same spot.
Before removing wires I placed green easy off painters tape as a tab on both sides of every connector and marked it with a number on both. I then laid out flat the new harness and found the same connector and wire color connection and marked that with the same number. This was especially helpful when on my back installing under dash harness. Even though not necessary and maybe a little silly,this was a little faster and easier than constantly looking for colors on wire. I also used dielectric grease on all connections to help prevent corrosion and wiped all exposed wiring not covered by wrap with 303 Protectant.

Yes, X2 on M&H, however, be sure to check your harness before you install, as I found a couple of wires that were out of the correct position in the bulk head connectors, but otherwise they have a great product.

I don't like the idea of getting a factory correct replacement "why"? These cars are 40+ years old along with they're wiring and the thought put into them, if you rewired your old house would you put the glass fuses panel back in? I like the idea of taking the opportunity to right the wrongs and improve what was there. I used a universal harness from American Autowire, I mostly went with it because I had some changes in mind and the universal was the most flexible and being universal it's cheaper. It was easy to install, all wires have they're purpose printed right on the wire, uses the newer blade fuses and relays, and allows several extra circuits for add on's, electric fan, electric fuel pump, power seats, etc. There is no longer a bulkhead connector, ammeter, voltage regulator (one wire alt) or any other problematic area left on my car. I know this isn't for everyone but it worked out great for me.

What you mentioned is the reason I did the 21 circuit/18 fuse kit from EZ-Wiring.... BUT... I did save some extra work and man hours by getting the rear M&H harness from YO and using it with my ez-wire kit

Agreed! Although you have to keep in mind it is a bit more of a "GM Style" fuse box and the open bulkhead (not enclosed behind) can make placement a bit more tricky.

I did my 70 RR from Year One. Everything fit perfectly. The wiring is ugraded to withstand hotter temps which keeps the wiring fresher over the years. Before i started, i copied a page of the instrument panel for the under dash wiring from the repair manual. It allowed me to mark & know where it came from.

Thats the area where I am going to have the most trouble. Nothing is hooked up under my dash except ignition, headlights and wipers. None of the gauges are hooked up, or the air controls, and someone spliced in a shitty alarm system and an after-market cruise control too at some point. Its a huge mess under there.

Seriously???? Maybe when it comes to pricing but in quality? You might want to research on this site and other related MOPAR sites the quality and fitment issues that they have had and continue to still. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for and M&H is the only way to go. STESTA you might want to check that statement out as the M&H harnesses are exclusively sold through Year One only. Unless Classic just happened to have one that they had purchased and was looking to download I don't believe they have an agreement with M&H as a vendor. But I could be all wrong too. The EZ Wiring kits are a great alternative too but when it comes to our MOPARS, a GM or Ford set up is not the way to go...IMHO...cr8crshr/Tuck

Not trying to start an arguement here but I have no complaints with the Ron Francis harness I installed. Granted, I have nothing to compare against as this is the only time I've done a complete harness install and Ron Francis is the only one I used. If the M&H is easier and better then great, but I didn't have a single problem with Ron Francis and every circuit worked the first time and the engine fired on the first pull.
