Howdy fellow mopar guys, I`m putting together a 65 coronet street strip car and wanted to pick your brains on what is the biggest tire / wheel combo I can put on the back of this car. I read some of the post regarding this and a fella called Super Stock said he runs 15x10s with 6.5" back spacing with 28x10.5 MTs on his with stock spring location and no mods to the wheel well. Can someone verify that for me. My car is all stock at this point and I dont want to cut or modify this car at all. Any feedback would be greatly appricated... Any photos of your set ups would be a big help too if it aint to much trouble...

I think that size tire/wheel combo is good for straight line only. A 275-60-15 with 4.5 inch backspace will be just right.

5.7 hemi is right on. When my '65 was completely stock as far as suspension, I was able to run 275-60X15 tires on 7" wide wheels with a 4 1/8" backspace. I used the same measurement wheels to run 9X29.5X15 M/T slicks at the track.

275-60x15 with 8" wheels and 4 1/2" backspace is about the safe limit for a stock set-up.

I am running BFG 275/60/15 on factory mopar 15x8 steel ramcharger wheel on my 65 coronet wagon, and that is about all it will handle.

Thank you guys...

You see, Thats why you pick the brains of the men with the experiance. I can`t thank you guys enough, you all are awesome to take the time and learn a fella that wants to learn... Thank you all for the replys, Dagomike

No way you'll get a 10" wheel on with the stock spring location! 8" is all.

Not true. I had a 10" Cragar on mine and they fit with about 1/2" on each side of the sidewall.

Now I'm running 8" WheelVintiques with 3.25" back spacing. Superstock springs in the stock location. I have about 5/8" on both sides of the tire now.

If you can remember, what was the back spacing on the 10" Crager that you ran on your 65?

My old rims and tires are in storage. Next time I stop by I can measure the rims and check the size of the radial tires. I didn't pay much attention since I knew I was gonna chang'em.

Here's a pic of the 10" Cragars and radials.

Here are the scaled computer renderings I drew to figure out what size rim I needed. In the drawing you can see the axle, leaf springs, and inside of the fender.

I actually fit the tire to the rim and measured in the first 2 drawings. Once I had those measurements I was able to figure out the right proportions for the 3rd and final drawing. You can see how the sidewall proportions changed on different size rims.

This set-up barely rubbed on the leaf spring.

This set-up wasn't even close.

This drawing shows a 3" backspace, but I ordered a 3.25" strictly just to make sure it fit centered (because I could've used a spacer if necessary). This looks and fits perfect on the car.

Lemme know if you have any questions.

Thanks to everyone that responed to my question. I have decided to go with 15X8`s with a 3.5" back spacing. This size just makes the best sense to me. Thanks to all... Dagomike:icon_fU:

Just remember that your sidewall works in proportion with the overall tire measurements and will change with different sizes of tires and rims.

So please use my set-up as an example and not the bible. My sidewall has extra bulge to it because the height of the sidewall the the rim size which in turn adds to the overall width. If my sidewall wasn't as tall and bulged I would've changed my offset and added more. Yah know?

S/S springs in stock location.
I used a 15x8 steel rim with 4.5 inch backspace.
For tires I have 295/65/R15- M/T Et Streets.
It's tight but works............

Nice lookin car...:headbang:

I had a set of 10.50X15X30 slicks on centered wheels with stock springs and perches on my '65 Satellite. This was inside the stock fender wells too. Looked nice and really worked..............

Just searched this. I was hoping 15 x 8s with 275s would fit. Cool. I got um already.

Without changing anything from stock, 275-60's are about it. It's really not hard or expensive to move the springs into the longitudinals and mini tub. One weekend for me, by myself. Moser Engineering shortened the rear and made new axles to my specs. About a week turnaround time. I currently have Hoosier 12.5X29 tires on 12" wheels with room for more.
