Im working on my 69 rag that has a 383 4 barrel with air. I have seen both types of air cleaners on 69 383 cars. What is right????

335 hp unsilenced, 330 hp silenced?

335 hp unsilenced, 330 hp silenced?
Back in 73-77 time frame I had a buddy with a Charger 383 w A/C which should be a 330 hp that had an unsilenced air cleaner.... So I don't believe that is what triggers the air cleaner selection..

Depends (at least partially) on whether it has a California noise package.
(Silenced air cleaner, hood blanket, turndown tailpipes, instead of tips.)
Has it got a holley or a Carter?

It has a carter. From what I know all 383 air cars were only 330 hp blue block. Even if the vin has an H in it like mine, air cars were only 330 horse not 335.

My reference book is 250 miles away, but.....
I think with your turquoise engine, it probably needs to be the silenced one in the first pic.
If I remember right, 335hp engines were hemi orange.
And I'm a bit confused. I thought the 335s got carters, and the 330 horse cars got holleys.
Does your car show any indication of a hood blanket?

The car that has silenced air cleaner also has hood blanket. A/C RoadRunner and SuperBee got 330 h.p. turquoise engine with Holley. I bought a new 1969 Super Bee with orange 335 h.p. 383 with Carter AVS. A friend of mine had a 1969 Coronet with turquoise 330 h.p. 383, and a Holley. At the time, I thought I got screwed on the carb choice on my engine, believing all the hot rod magazines' hype of superiority of Holley carbs. Both engines were "H" code on VIN. At some point in 1969, the orange 335 h.p. engine became optional in regular Belvedere/Satellite and Coronet. I have seen original cars with this, and was surprised when I first saw it.

The car to the left in my avatar is a 383 4bbl with a factory unsilenced. AC car, turquoise 330 motor. I'm the 2nd owner.

The real answer is - It depends. What plant built the car, was it originally a California car. etc.
