What other Car projects that are non Mopar does anyone have going on right now?

Been thinking about a motor swap, any idea what options I'd have that would bolt up? Mines a 120 hp Mercruiser I/O (chevy 4 cyl).... gutless! You'll drown before you come out on one ski lol. Thought it would be cool to put a slant six in it with some fab work.
When I was a kid, our first boat had a 292 L6 Chevy. My dad did some mods to it. 4bbl, exhaust, cam. It helped.

Actually I am not 100% sure yet .I definitely want to use it to pick up the toys for tots this year last year we took a huge trailer and put Christmas lights on it this year I think the deuce will be fun to take around then I'm deciding if I want to convert it to a tow truck for my cars or just fix it up and drive it as a grocery getter

Haha where do i start. I have a steady rotation of vehicles i tinker with. Mostly junky old rust buckets but all fun. Main running project/toy is a 500hp pontiac 455 powered 4 speed 70 monte carlo. Main project though is my 68 gtx but i know you said non mopar. Can this be non b body? Im currently also putting a 50 dodge panel truck onto an 83 k5 blazer chassis. Also building a ramp truck from three trucks with my father. Have a 47 dodge 1.5 ton that we are putting the cab on the chassis from my old 79 beaver motorhome which is a 1.5 ton dodge 440 chassis. And using all the ramp parts from an 87 gmc r3500 ramp truck with a 17ft chevron aluminum bed. But the dodge is going to be show worthy so the past several nights and weekends ive been working out in the cold and snow to get the 87 gmc streetworthy so we can have a working ramp truck we can actually use while we will build a shiny new truck to move the ramp parts to.
Also have a 70 gto and 67 mustang(was my first car 16 years ago) ive been toying with. And lastly grafting a 46 chevy fleetline aerosedan onto a 92 z71 gmc shortbed. Same wheelbase but a lowered 4x4 would make for a sweet ride when its done. Yes my yard looks like a junk yard. Oh i forgot the 51 ford f3. All original rusty patina with the original flathead in it. That one just needs the radiator and seat put in and ill enjoy it in the spring.

OK, so non mopar projects....

First I scored a super clean 1987 Buick regal, I am making it protouring beast, the body is perfect so I ripped it all apart, went right through the body and primer sealed it, its about as ready as it can be for final paint, also mini tub and 9" rear end. Its sitting in my aunts garage right now, waiting for me to get another burst of ambition..
I stripped a 2014 6.0 sierra, I am using the gauge cluster, ecm, motor, tranny, and traction control from the truck (traction control is harder than it sounds, I actually have the traction control from a late model impala also, but I think the trucks will work, trick is getting the weights close. (and with the truck we can change a prom to a lot of options, the lightest 6cyl std cab short bed, to a 3500 diesel) we hope lol.. We pulled it off before and it worked awesome, I didn't invent it hot rodders are doing it all the time.. Seems no one will make a traction control system for a hot rod too much liability...

A friend of mine has a shop and worked the seat foams, installed heaters and recovered the bucket seats for me, and I found some nice power rails for the fronts. I have all the grand national body parts, painted bumpers, hood, spoilers, etc.

We built the 6.0 into a 550hp monster, and had the tranny done to match it, the rear end gear ratio hasn't been decided as of yet.

I have everything except the exhaust (gonna be power zoomies, 3" full dual, the works), wheels and tires (doing 20 in back 18 in front, over sized factory look wheels, air suspension, brakes, some a/c parts (I am using most of the stuff out of the donor truck, but not using the old parts, I will get new condenser, evaporator, lines, filter, pump. I just ordered the gas tank (custom poly tank with aero pump installed), and I need to send the steering comps to steer and gear for rebuild and tune. Besides that I have everything, I will be into the car for around $30K when its done but think about it, a 550hp 6speed, all brand new, what do you get brank new, this will have nav, really nice gut, perfect body, new everything...

The other non mopar project is actually the destruction of a toy, a while back I built a 496ci 675hp 84 Camaro, and last winters oil ana came back with bearing material level high, so I took the motor out and sure enough the bearings are not healthy at all, it wouldn't have been long before I would need a crank and a couple rods..
So I sent the crank and roller cam out for polishing, the block is getting baked and blasted, new cam bearings, new fplugs, and a fresh hone, I ordered bearings, rings, oil pump, timing set and gaskets, and the motor will go back together, BUT not going back in the Camaro :( I am done with her, we dragged it to the track less and less, and it got more and more expensive of a trip. Just not worth it anymore, so Ill wrap the motor up and put it on a shelf in the shop, the tranny is also out and already wrapped, the car is going on craigslist after my son gets all the gauges, fuel system, switches, and shifter out. So that is really the destruction of a project but the heads and all the other parts are on the bench waiting for the machine shop to call and say they are done with the rest of it.
I thought I was going to have to do a valve job but the heads are perfect, I took them apart, checked the runout (its better than I remember it when we put it together) and ended up just cleaning, painting, and reassembling them with new seals, springs, locks. I also ordered a couple roller lifters they were a different color than the others around the rollers pin, I never seen that before, so I am replacing them too. The motor is really nice, I think the issue is a crack in the oil pickup, I never noticed low psi and it never tripped the alarm, and I don't know if we cracked it taking it apart or it was cracked? BUT it is now. This motor dynod almost 700hp at the crank, so she was healthy, and we only weekend warriored her 5-10 times a year for 4-5 years...

NO REGRETS though it was fun, and honestly the motor may have cost me $4000 when we built it originally, and now another $850 with parts and machine work, can't complain..

So that's it, everything else is mopar, lol...

heres what I am shooting for with my protouring gnx clone, I will be into it for $30K, but easily resale it for $80K to 100K..

If a pic is too large, it will not load.
And sometimes you just need to wait while a pic does load.
yah I fucked that all up, I can type, but the pictures ruin me, I have to have my son take picture of something and add it to emails and web pages for me, I just have too much in my brain to add any new, its full of useless stuff like the drummers in the stones names Ronnie Wood and Chuck watts, and Mick Taylor played guitar for 5 years in the late 60s early 70's...

Went to a trivia night with the wife and some friends and we won because I answered them 2 questions right and no one in the entire place new the answers.. Everyone knows mick jagger and kieth but one fo the questions was who was the other mick and the other was name the 2 drummers....

68GTXNH, it seems like we do not have to worry about you getting bored.......

We had to pull the 6spd on the nova sunday, when ever they engine got full op temp a squeal would start. As i suspected it appears to be either the throwout or the pilot. Both are new, pilot seemed liked it was dragging but double checked the measurements on the t/o and it is at the bare min for clearence... put a bushing in instead of a bearing and different throw out that gave a few thousandths...will install this weekend and hope for the best!

Good luck Mike! Hey, at least it was not a big issue, but a major hassle to deal with a small issue for sure!!!

HA, thats the point, i have car and gun ADD. so if i have 12 projects, if i get bored with one or reach some random problem i cant quite solve, ill just go tinker with something else for a couple weeks. the shocker though will be in 15 years when i suddenly finish all of them at the same time... thatll be a big bill to register and insurance everything. aww crap, i just remembered i have a 69 cougar and a an 81 fiat turbo spider too that i forgot to mention. also an old 1940 Farmall m tractor... see when you have too many you forget whats in your yard.... but thats part of the fun "oo i forgot i have had that xyz" it becomes fresh and exciting, hence eliminating the boredom.

I had this issue with the pilot bearings on a super charged 3" stroke small block chevy (motor made 585 hp at 8100 rpms) (under 305 ci!!!) We tried real bearings, bushings, everything, it would last a bit and start screaming away..

Our problem ended up being the lube we were using, I had a machinist come to the shop to super micro polish the shaft and get us the perfect surface polish/size/mate... Turned out heat was our problem, because we lightened everything including a super light low mass clutch (rotating mass minimalism at its best), that heat and energy would just go everywhere and cook the grease, we noticed high temps, and we were using 2 huge oil coolers, with a preluber, intercoolers, over sized radiator, water wetter, and the motor ran cool, but with the high rpms, our end gear ratio, and low tq you had to slip the cutch a little to get her going sometimes..
He told me right out that it was my lubricants short comings causing the issues, he pulled out a jar of Honda urea grease, engineered for when they started spinning their f1 engines 20K rpm, lol...
I now keep a couple jars on hand, its marked Honda super high temp urea grease, its like $15 an ounce (so I wouldn't go packing trailer bearings with it), but that clutch never made noise again... WELL UNTIL THE DAY I WAS RUNNING IT AT EPPING AND A ROD DECIDED TO TAKE A LEFT TURN THROUGH MY FIBERGLASS FLIP NOSE :( , I now believe in rev limiters, no matter the motor, I used to think its a destroker, I can rev it to 10K, well, no I couldn't .. right around 9700 lol..

I'm into a pair of mopars (other than my own), but I also cracked into this 66 bronco about a month ago (first year, and V8)........ inner/outer rockers, hinge pillars, and inner fenders

Nice work and good choice!!!!!

I dod some research on the LS forums and theres quite a few people that had issues with the bearings and most swapped out in favor of the bushing...I hope that fixes it...the old man is ready to drive!

I don't like the bearings, and I actually have to use one of the large pilot bearings on an upcoming car, the motor I have for it has an automatic crank in it and the car is a 4speed, they used to make a pilot bushing out of brass available at napa, but no longer make it, which really sucks, because this bearing Wayne at Brewers sent me makes my nose curl a bit...

Being out getting the servicing up to date on my Toyota van - don't laugh....it has a torsion bar front suspension.

and while we were waiting for the trans to drain out some, we noticed another car had a tyre that was well and truly screwed...

Thats where we got ours, could not find the right OD but I wired the machine shop across the road and have become good friends so we were able to "calibrate" it. The bronze is the oilipregnated variety and I think if you could mic your bearing you could do the same....
Good luck SB!

Not really a car project but auto related. I collect, buy, refurbish and sell old radiator emblems, Motometers, and threaded hubcaps from all brands of prewar cars. I've been doing this since the 90's and have learned a hell of a lot about old cars in the process. For example, did you know that between 1900 and 1930 there were more than 5000 car brands introduced in the USA? Right now I have a Motometer "factory" set up by my work bench and on the hood of my Oldsmobile, stripping, cleaning and putting parts together to end up with desirable meters and caps for resale. I work on these about three times a year but handle radiator emblems and hubcaps much more often. It keeps me busy and out of trouble... hopefully.
