Hi everyone,

This may be a weird question but last year me and my dad build an engine for my 1966 Plymouth Belvedere and i was wondering how much power is approximately making. This because I am planning to convert it to LPG (gasoline in the Netherlands is about $6,58 a/gallon, and right now i cant get the car over 8 miles per gallon) and have to know to which evaporator and mixer to buy.

I am talking about a mopar 400cui with the following specs:

Block: Bored 30 over raising compression with keith black KB-240-030 to 9.2-1, all new internals.
Head: All stock except valve springs.
Intake: Stock mopar dual plane 4-barrel intake.
Cam: CCA-K21-213-4, duration at 050 inch, Lift 212 int./212 exh, Adv. Duration 260/260, Lift .440/.440.
Headers: Hedman headers 78030, 1 3/4 in primary, 2.5 in collector.
Exhaust: dual 2.5in all the way back with dynomax 24236.
Ignition: Standard reproduction electric ignition.
Carb: Right now a edelbrock avs 650.

I would want to bring it to a dyno but over here thats quite expensive and the goal right now is to keep it cheap.
Thank you for your time and hope you can help me.
Best regards
Marco

I would say probably 320-350hp at the crank and around 260-290 at the wheels. The compression ratio isn't that high and the cam looks fairly mild. It would be more of a torquey motor than a high power engine?

if you have a smart phone there is an app for that in the play store. H.P Calculator.

9.2-1 do you know what head gaskets were used when building the engine. You can bring the compression ratio up from this with a simple head gasket.

You should be getting 15 miles per gallon now. So, if LPG conversion and LPG operating cost still make it better $ than fixing to current problem, then go for it.

I’d say 300-350 is a pretty safe guess.

350hp at the crank and 300hp at the wheels sounds about right with his headers.

Of course we don't know his head casting numbers or valve size. Those factors could put him anywhere between 250hp and 425hp.

Marco,
With your combination, getting 8 mpg is weird. Proper tuning should pretty much double that if the engine has good compression and the carburetor and distributor are serviceable. It would help to get a proper compression test done and to know what kind of torque converter and rear gears are being used.
What is the cost of doing an LP conversion and the cost of LP fuel where you live?
