I love the tail light area of the 68' and the view from the drivers side mirror looking down the quarter panel. As far as a clone goes,it just means you can drive the crap outta it and modify it however you want. Mine's a clone and I drive it every day it doesn't rain in the summer. JMHO...

take a guess what i would pick....lol

I love the look of the 71-74 cars even though the 73 and 74 cars are vastly different. From a financial standpoint, the 71 R/T has the others beat in value.

If you're a purist, a "clean" styling guy, or a "roots" guy (which I can be)- 68 X (maybe also a better power to weight ratio in purely stock form)

If you like the baubles and trinkets (rallye wheels, tuff steering wheels, machine gun tips, slap stiks, HIP colors, spoilers and wings, etc (which I do)- 71 R/T.

If you don't care that your car will never be of the value caliber of either of the above, or if you just LOVE a 69 Coronet body (and I do), well then.

Of course the option lists, condition and pricing comes into play big time.

jmho x2 :)

I do plan to drive it everyday and do some modifications too. I want modern day suspension with creature comforts but have the old school muscle look and power.

Yeah that's a badass charger and I was thinking hard about either 71 charger r/t and the 69 coronet. I think the parts are easier to find parts for the charger and coronet.

So far that's a very cool answer from someone so far. That piece of advice does help so much.
I have actually narrowed it down to the coronet and charger. The biggest thing between the two are the price.

to what I like about the charger and coronet is that they have more personality. You dont see to many 69 coronets and 71 chargers out there on the road. I like the odd ball stuff that nobody has alot off. I think both cars are under appreciated in my opinion.

I would buy the 68 GTX probably... not for any other reasoning except, 1968 is my favorite year in most any Mopar... I've been threatening to build a 71 Charger R/T too, so I think it would all come down to whats the better project, deal, combo, rust, parts included, engine, trans, etc....LOL.... Hell I like & have had them all !!

68 had the really cool looking round side markers, great taillights, and simple, mean looking front grills and the 68's look a little cleaner IMO so i would go with the GTX too, but then my tendency was always toward 68-70 Plymouth's, however, but the 71 RT's really had some bling!

68 GTX!

But like Budnicks says:

"I think it would all come down to whats the better project, deal, combo, rust, parts included, engine, trans, etc"

So give us some prices, drivelines, options, colors, condition etc...pics even better!

1. 71 Charger R/T; originally blue w/ black interior; 440, auto, a/c, p.s; $6500
2. 69 Coronet 440; bronze w/ black interior; 318, auto, a/c, p.s; $6000
3. 68 GTX; orginially blue w/ black interior; pretty much rolling shell; $8000

Right now I am up in the air with coronet and charger r/t; just because i really like the body lines of either car.

If the cowl is solid on the Charger, that looks like the better project for the money.

6K is a LOT for a roller with no motor.

I think you can do better for that kind of money.

I'll let you have my 72 400-4 car as a roller and I'll include the roof it needs from the 74sunroof car, and might throw in some bucket seat cores for 4-5K.

Do Fender tags come with car #1 and #3?

1. 71 Charger R/T; originally blue w/ black interior; 440, auto, a/c, p.s; $6500 - I would go with this one but the body experts should jump in about condition esp on fenders/doors. this one will have the most bling options possible to add on or repair due to post 69 model year (costly but super cool bling that is).

2. 69 Coronet 440; bronze w/ black interior; 318, auto, a/c, p.s; $6000 - that seems extremely high for what it is. i would want huge discount for non-badge/auto/318 car

3. 68 GTX; orginially blue w/ black interior; pretty much rolling shell; $8000 - seems high also if what you see is all you get, was it 4 speed? and what rear/gear/SG/Dana? ?

(hmmm ... I sold a 68 R/T 4 speed complete roller project minus engine/trans but with the 3.54 Dana still the in car for $4,500 about 3 years ago...wonder if i sold to low?)

the charger does come with a 440 and 727 auto, i did not have that picture posted due to many pictures of the car.

The charger does come with a 440 and auto trans. The car does come with full interior, so the charger is very complete. I was starting to lean toward the charger just because you dont see to many running around and this year is just very under appriecated charger in my opinion. The coronet would be fun also but the charger does have more options and has a big cool factor

Is go with r/t but I just talked to a guy that has a 68 coronet project that is much cleaner for all of 3500 with a built 440 that was green and green only needs front floor and minor other pieces

Whoah, hold up. After seeing pictures of these things and what he is asking i would say no to all of them. I was under the impression they were in better shape or even running. You are talking about making payments are cars that need major restorations. You will have a car payment every month plus the cost of trying to build? Thats nuts. And those prices? For that kind of money I would have a running driving car. I would hold out. I gotta laugh a little really. 6K for the 69? That thing isn't worth 1K much less 6. http://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/3559547371.html

After seeing the picture of the GTX with the logo across the image all I can say is RUN AWAY NOW! I stopped by this lemon orchard two years ago when I went to Missouri to pick up a car. From a distance I really thought I had found a major score, and couldn't get off I-55 fast enough. He has everything extremely overpriced in my opinion, and most of the cars are borderline parts cars or have already been parts cars. The prices were scary high for what he was selling. It's your money, but I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere. I have seen much better deals on this site.
Just two cents from someone who was physically there and saw what this guy was shoveling.
