Cub Cadets are good...it's what they specialize in. I was back-and-forth between them, Massey Fergusen, and John Deere.
MF was the most expensive.
When I asked our local JD farm dealer why they did not offer the new (cheaper) mowers, I was told that they refused to because they were crap and that they did not want dissatisfied customers coming back.
Cub Cadet was less than the JD and available at Lowes.
I found and bought a heavily used, 3yr old, 'real' JD. Other than a battery, oil, & filters...I have put nothing into it. Going on 10 years now. I have mowed, plowed snow, towed more weight than I should, fabbed up a tine to install in-ground electric fence, and it just keeps going. I paid more than a new Craftsman would have cost. Money well spent. The twin cylinder is twice as quiet as the competition...I can hear the neighbors' Troy-Built, Craftsman and Husky over mine...while I'm mowing!
