What's the Deal Here

I will weigh in on this one and I DO know Galen personally.

Regardless of the passing of his wife or brother, when you are in business it is not a good practice to continue to accept payment for services you can't render in a timely fashion. If he is that far behind then the RIGHT thing to do is update your advertising to indicate what services take priority and what kind of a timeframe people can expect. I see this subject regarding him come up on EVERY Mopar site I visit. You would think he would be tired of it and do as I suggest above.

He is an old mechanic turned Mopar (self proclaimed) expert. He is NOT a really sauvy business man as is noted by his actions. The thing you have to remember is that this is his living and he is going to give the attention to what pays him the most. You can bet that when someone calls and say they want to pay his expenses and pay him a lot of money to fly out and certify a car he has time for THAT. All of that is OK if you first let your other potential customers KNOW what the timeframe is BEFORE you accept their money.

It really doesn't matter where or how Galen got his info, but rather that he HAS it.

It used to be that he was the only game in town regarding HIS registry, which by the way has not grown much in the last few years and that is not just because he has been slow but rather that fewer are sending him the info. Since the Internet there are registries for nearly ANY kind of car and since they are model specific are generally much larger than Galen's and they are FREE.

If he can get people to pay him to provide their info and at the same time create something larger that he can also sell, more power to him. That is just free enterprise in America.

Being new to this hobby, can someone explain to me what Galen Govier Registry really is and how it benefits you to have him register your car. Is it worth more to have it registered by him? :edgy:

Well you pay him to register you vehical , then he takes that info and charges people for those number ? He double dips and gets you coming and going and makes you wait the whole time . My two cents

Register you charger with TDC and chris's registy for 69 only is my advice .

Already have done both, I found out that Chris is an *** BTW. About Galen double dipping in the till I agree. It's f***ing $75 to talk on the phone for only a 1/2 hour. Also if you go to mymopar.com it doesn't take an idiot to decode a fender tag, and he charges $56. In reallity aside from the issue of his wife, WHO THE HELL DOES HE THINK HE IS charging so much?

All of the mopar guys I have talked to say that "your car is questionable" if not registered with Galen. My body guy is a Mopar guy and he told be that I should do it. Personally I have been questioning this. Galen Govier, say it to yourself a couple times, he's just a guy who has mopar numbers. From what I understand once upon a time he was the only one doing this and the times have changed but though processes have not. I was told that if you register your mopar with Galen that anyone, when selling time comes will not doubt what you have or question your integrity. Again I think that this is just a big hipe over one man's NAME, big F***ing deal!

If you have a rare , hemi , or any other low production car and you are selling it , Yes i believe it can help you sell it for a better price with galens documentation. He has build a name in the Mopar world and high dollar auction scene . That being said if you have just a everyday muscle car like me , I doubt you will gain any benefit from him you cant find right here on the internet about your car or even right here on this forum .

In fact i asked him about my low production charger 69 500 , that is a solid car ,one of 392 nascar limited production cars. Its missing all its original drive train and fender tag and missing its build sheet . Mind you it has all its vin tags and core stamping/ trunk rail stamping. He told me to just use it for a parts car . WTF ????

I have had no problems ever with chris at all , but different personalitys can clash . He has alway been great to me , also wayne wooten has also been great to deal with although he is a little excentric

I cant believe how little compassion some people can have... Hes not some f'kn ebay salesman from china... hes a flesh and blood person with a family in the USA. F*&k your $16 bucks, your little sheets of paper will eventually find there way to you. If something like a sheet of paper is so important to have for your cars, then paying $16 dollars for it should be an indication that since its so cheap, you might have to wait awhile to get it.

Where does he got off charging so much? Where do "I" get off charging what I do for "MY" services. For that matter, where do YOU get off charging so much for whateverthehell it is YOU do.

get real

Now I suggest any name calling stop here

OK that's just beatiful. I just love it when I get insulted. I never said "Galen I want my Registry Letter now" "I'm gonna put a 44 to your head if I don't have it". I just wanted to find out what was up with Galen, OK. I've had the rep of being short fused but you seroiusly need to watch yourself.

Sorry if I insulted you. all im saying, is the guys got some personal issues hes dealing with, cut the guy a break. Tell you what, If your ever in the Los Angeles area, let me know and we'll split a 12 pack.

Galen has done so much for the Hobby I can not believe the bashing going on here.I have had several of my cars decoded and registered by him, and yes he has always been alittle slow.He has always told me you can pay up front or I will charge it to your credit card when I am finished.I always talk to him before I get anything done and yes it usally take 10 or 12 phone calls before I can get a hold of him.And he charges way to much???????????? If his services cost to much go somewhere else.

Hey thanks for the offer buddy, but that'll need to wait 4 years. I know what you mean, and what happens, happens and if GG is super busy then he obviously dosen't deserve any grief.

Well I won't back down that he charges too much but if this is worth the wait then patience shall provail. Again this is my first experience with him so I do not know what to expect.

426HemiCharger it maybe Dec or Jan before you get your paperwork back but you will be happy with it once you have it.I do agree he should tell people he is 6-8 months behind and does if you talk to him personaly.

I have no problems with him with the exception of the length of time that it actually took versus the 3 or 4 months that I was told when I sent in the request and I couldn't get Diane to return my calls or emails. I was looking to close the checking account that I used to pay him and of course those 2 checks that I wrote to GTS haden't been deposited yet so I called simply to request that they go ahead and put the checks through, I even told her I didn't care if they were going to do the work right away, I just wanted them to process the payment so I didn't have to waste time and resources arranging a different method of payment. BTW, I don't do credit cards anymore. The worst thing I would have to complain about his business is poor customer service and lack of comunication. Otherwise I have no problem with him and would likely use his services again.

426HemiCharger,

What prompted the negative comments about Chris? We really don't need that here especially without any specific reason or explaination for it. Yes, you are known here a a hothead. Would be a good idea if you wrote your post somewhere else and let them sit for a while, read them yourself to see what they sound like to others BEFORE you post them. No one is iterested in hearing name calling for no apparent reason

T other posters,

It is difficult to tell who's comments some are reacting to in this thread.

I think some here are confusing GGs registration with his certification regarding what kind of value it can have. The registration has no value. Many value GGs certification but it also can cost 1000s of dollars.

I have never had any of me cars certified by him, but I do own his white books and know how to read and use them. The info in them is basically what he uses when certifing your car and simply puts it in an easy to read and understandable format. I do the same thing with my cars decoding the info and put it in a three ring binder with all of the other things for the car. If I list my cars for sale I indicate that they have been decoded and determined to be what they are listed as per the use of Galen Govier's white books. The buyer can do the same thing to double check what I have indicated. In the end all of this weather I do it or GG does it, the buyer will assign their OWN value to it.

Tem,
Who are you responding to here? I went through all of the posts in this thread and could not tell. Was there a post deleted?
