Will be taking delivery of a 1967 GTX. Has build date of 9-19; question is the build date 9-19-66 making it a very early '67 or 9-19-67 making it a late 1967?
The engine is marked with a "C" so that indicates a 1967? When were 1967 GTX models first produced?
Thanks for any replies!

9-19-66 would be 67 model year.....if it was 9-19-67, it would be 68 model year.

Production stopped around mid July and started up again in mid August for next model year car

My 67 has .628 on the fender tag, June 28, 1967. Cars built in 66 have a letter and day date on the fender tag from the cars I have seen. I believe it is also on the radiator support with the sequence number. I will check.

Radiator support is upside down and shows 7 for the year 628 build date and sequence number and fender tag on my one owner GTX. It was delivered to my brother July 31, 1967.

June 15 build date on engine. 1-10-67 casting date on intake.

all cars in 66 & newer have letters for production date on fender tag if they were built in Oct, Nov, or Dec (A=Oct, B=Nov, C=Dec)

all 3 of my Chargers have a May date on fender tag, so they read 502, 506, & 521

So 919' would be September 19, 1967. So it is a late production 67?
Did the model year change take place between September and October?

no...919 would be Sept 19th, 1966 when car was built. This makes it an early 67 car. Model year change over took place usually during last week of July to around middle of August.

That makes sense. The A. B and C were used in place of double didgits for Oct, Nov and Dec production. My brother was not able to place an order for a car since it was July when we were looking. I already saw pictures of the 68 and didn't like it so he bought the 67.
He could still look at some casting dates if the original engine is in that car.

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback.
I'm going to check the stampings on the block and intake manifold and see that they precede the build date of 9-19.
That should verify if the motor is original as the seller claims.
I'll also check the radiator support to see that it matches the 9-19 build date.
I'll keep everyone posted.

check the pad in front of rail....it should say "C 440"

Got paperwork from Chrysler Historical Services.
The 9-19 build date is from 1966. The radiator support also states 919 followed by the numbers on the fender tag.
The engine block is marked with a "C" which indicates 1967 and is numbered 3 21 which means a March 21st build date. It is also marked HP.
So my assumption is that the engine has been replaced at some time with a correct 1967 high performance replacement.
Seems that an early 1967 model built in late 1966 would have a 1966 engine.
Any thoughts fro anyone?
Thanks!

What are your block casting #’s...Check side of engine....It should be 2536430... it will have info on what shift & time it was made..... If you pull the valve covers. You should 915 heads for the 440 hP motor..It also has casting #’s & date........The more info leads to a #’s matching car....

Crawled under the car and saw the following:
Casting 25364305 and above that what looked like 1D followed by 3 66
The small arrow points to N which I assume means night shift
There is a clock or what looks like a clock symbol and it looks like the arrow is at 3.
This may make sense since the top pad of the block is stamped 3 21 and there is a C designation in front of the 440 stamp
Could this engine have been made and assembled in March of '66 and then put in the car when it was built on 9-19-66?
Thanks for any input!

would it not have been just as simple as to look at the body style as in 68 it was a radical change in style..

try placing an ad in the parts wanted section...you might have better luck there

If you're old enough (I am barely)...September was the time to go to the dealerships and see the new models in the showroom.

...and a "1/2 year" introduction was kind of a big deal.

Now it's when ever they feel like introducing them.

The 1967 Plymouth GTX was first introduced to the public in September 1966.

According to my literature, the 1967 GTX {440/375 HP} would be classed in NHRA > C/S or C/SA {9.50 to 10.59 Wt/Hp}
for the end of the 1966 Racing Season.

The GTX 426 'Street Hemi' would be classed in NHRA > A/S or A/SA {7.00 to 8.69 Wt/Hp} for the end of the 1966 Racing Season.
