Which electric ignition?

I also use a Mallory mech advance dist along with my MP orange box. I really like the Mallory as it is very easy to set the advance and I have had no problems at all in almost 6 years on the road. Ron

Hate to go against the group but just about every msd dist. ive ever seen has rusted up under the cap. I have a mallory setup (unilite and hyfire IV).

Hi i am just wondering what you guys do with your vacumm advance port on your mopar distributors will the distibutor work the same with it pluged, the reason i ask is my brother has the mopar dist. and orange box and the vacumm port is capped off, just wondering how the performance is affected with it capped off, he has a big cam with not to much vaccumm. Thanks

I´m actually considering an MSD 6AL + MSD blaster2 spool at the moment.
Can get this for a good price (I hope).

My distrubitor is in great shape, can I use the original one with this system?
At least for a while, don´t know if my wallet will have time to recover until spring.

Is the Procomp 6AL the same as the MSD?

MSD ready-to-run.

No box, no ballast resistor. Just a distributor and a coil, and if you ever feel you need more (unlikely) a 6AL will tie right into it.

the msd is by far the best all around choice, all in one package, rev limiter is included, you really would not need to add a 6AL because it pretty much has it built in.

OK ,lets get to the bare bones here. what you need to ask yourself is, what kind of power are you looking for? we know that one 300 HP. That falls into the mild motor class, so do you need a full blown MSD unit? not really. Do you WANT the MSD unit most likely. fact is for what you are building you would be well served with either the summit or mopar unit's, the chrome box is very good but may be overkill for what you are doing. the really nice thing about the mopar system is that EVERYTHING is a direct plug in. Say you want to change from a stock ECM to the orange or chrome box, just plug it in, DONE. I read in an earlier response about the use of the HEI system offered by proform, now, that has a very good base we all know the HEI is a very reliable system and parts are avail anywhere. I am a speed shop manager for pep boys and have sold all of the above ign systems, so I suggest you tailor the ign system to how you intend to use the car. A good driver with a little hot dogging now and then the stock electronic will serve you well, more strip use go with the ready to run msd. more strip use then street, go with the MSD pro billet and a 6AL box and a Blaster coil. sorry for the long winded post but I did not see any of this info covered yet

Here's the deal, yeah, I want the MSD.
This is for a few reasons:

1. If I at one point may want to trade for, let's say, a chevy (hope not), I can reuse the MSD.
2. For the future, this won't be the last enginebuild.
3. The pricetag aint so much higher over here for a box and coil, than the MoPar or Summit units.

i tossed in a msd6al, msd pro-billet dist, n blaster coil into my 440 streeter. it's been all good so far.

i've always wanted to get away from points ever since my 225-slant-six 68 Dodge Dart.

I have the mopar electronic ignition with the chrome box an no problems for 6 years now on the street. I carry an extra coil, ballast resister and a spare chrome box and a bunch of tools. I carry them and so far have not had to use them fo my car anyway.

I run the "orange box" kit......$ from Mancini
it seems to be ok!
hide the "box" and all looks stock.

Still have´nt decided on any ignition yet, but it leans towards the MP, or MSD 6 Digital.

pertronix's is a great way of keeping the stock looking system while gaining the reliability of electronic ign. the igniter II is their hotter system, basically the same premise as the mallory unilite system. I believe it uses a hallifax(
misspelled, I know) type of trigger, very simple to install and quite reliable.

Well, guess You all are going to shoot me now.
I bought a china knockoff of the MSD 6AL, with a spool.
Payed $100 for the set, with new Accel wires, and a fuel pump (ProComp Holley knockoff).
I figured, for that price it can be ****, and I still won´t cry myself to sleep. :mrgreen:

Now, a question.
I´m using my points as a trigger, shall I remove the capacitator?
