I have a 67 Belvedere II that I'm wanting up-grade.
Just for fun poll.I thought I would ask you guys which engine to pick.
Old school 426 HEMI, or late model EFI HEMI.
If I do the old school HEMI it will be a 440 Stage V conversion.
It has a great 440 with 915 heads in it now.
I know the engine would have to be rebuilt for the conversion.
And the EFI HEMI would take a lot of wiring.
But a HEMI is on my bucket list!
 
Old School Hemi for an Old School car, in my opinion.
 
New Hemi, and better mpg to boot.
 
If you build a Gen II hemi, FORGET about that Stage V 440 conversion hemi. What you save by not buying a hemi block, you will spend in putting that thing together and have less engine. Buy a good aftermarket iron or aluminum hemi block and start from there. That stage V conversion is major work with a die grinder. With an aftermarket hemi, you can go bigger on the bore as well.

I have heard so many stories about the 426 HEMI that put
the hurt on them, back the day.
 
Ok, go with old school but use efi, that would be smokin'!!! Nothing like Hillborn injected stacks poking thru the hood.
 
426 HEMI with fuel injection. Now that's the best of both worlds.
 
I personally don't care for 3rd gen Hemi's in old school cars.I know you CAN make good power with them,but I'm an old school knda guy:headbang:

Old school Hemi.

Can't beat it for the 'wow factor'
 
Go with the stage II. The new hemi really isn't a true hemi with the way the combustion chamber is laid out. Also tjheir is nothing like the pulling power of the Stage II Hemi. Don't waste your time with the conversion from a 440 to a hemi, it just is not worth the head aches.
 
If I put together an old style 426 Hemi, what would it cost?
Single carb. and no frills!
OR.
440 Stage V conversion, and I do all the grinding and assembly.
 
The crate 426 Hemis go for around $15k, I believe.
 
You can buy a MOPAR mega block for under $3000,and pick it up at the local Dodge dealer:book1:
 
To build a good Street hemi will cost you 17K to 20K. period.

1. Block World Castings Elwood English Block 3000.00
2. Heads with Stage V Rockers 6000.00
3. Rotating Assembly 3000.00 Good quality manley, diamond and Kellog crank or callies.
4. Machine work 1500.00 with final hone hi nickel block and check deck from web oil pan mount..
5. Bearings, Rings oil pan Milodon Pump 600.00
6. Street Roller cam Crane or Comp cams 550.00
7. crane Roller Lifters or Comp. Prefer crane they dont need lifter bores to be sleeved. 350 to 550
8. Quick Fuel Carb 600.00
9. Duel Plane intake used from ebay 200.00
10. MSD Distributor 400.00
11. Double Roller Ashton Billet timing chain 200.00
12. Balance assembly 300.00 with balancer on and also hang fly wheel.
13. Power Master Starter 175.00
14. Smith Brothers Push rods 150.00
15. Head gasket kit and engine assembly kit good quality multi layer head gasket 300.00
16. headers either TTI or used Hooker headers. 400 used 900 new.
17. Valve covers that do not crack or seal properly used american made 300.00 black wrinkle. or old set of MT covers aluminum weight a pile but dont crack.. Bucks
