I wrote about the smoker we use...turkey and a ham
no turkey here. not a big fan of it..
I wonder if Vegans fashion tofu into turkey shapes and cook them up?Wait until a vegan reads this ! We are all monster's! I love eating meat ! (Before you get home excited kern ! Not man meat!)
We do something a little different in the West household - we like Cornish Game hens with agrautin potatoes and asparagus. They’re obviously small so we each have our own. Don’t really cook it any special way. I just bake them in stand up contraptions with a simple salt and pepper rub. Delicious little things and you don’t over eat. Christmas is the big holiday with the family in Minneapolis - that’s where we do the whole turkey and stuffing thing.
This year, will be low key, my Pop's in the hospital
he just had open heart surgery, quadruple bypass
& a heart valve repair, last Friday am
but;
We usually mix it up
we've done lobster a few times
we've done crab a few years
we've done ravioli a few years (my aunt makes the best)
we've done ham many, many years
along with a turkey, you have to have a turkey of some sort
It's Turkey day after-all,
the sides or other main dish, depends on my mood
or who's all coming to Thanksgiving
I still have 4 (3 now) sisters, 4 girls (3) daughters (1 is my niece)
2 boys (1 is my nephew)
family is sort of spread out now, in-laws to share with etc.
pretty much the same way at Christmas, now too
I always do a sausage & mint stuffing,
cooked on the stove top then baked, for crispness
also a traditional stuffing my mom used to make
it's oyster stuffing, crackers mix & bread in a pan
either of them with either beagles toasted & shredded
or with sourdough toasted & diced
sometime one of the girls will do a cornbread giblets stuffing too
usually do some sort of stuffing in the turkey too, one or other
they are all baked
I do love the dressings
Sweet potatoes sliced with pineapple & onions
sometimes Au gratin potatoes, extra cheesy
with a chili spice on top
I usually do some sort of roasted peppers too
depends on the crowd or size
Mash potatoes & a couple of gravy's, from what ever meats renderings
a green bean casserole, lots of mushrooms, mushroom soup
topped with homemade, shredded fried onions & bacon
lemon meringue (spell ?) pie, my oldest sisters specialty
pumpkin pie (not a big fan of it)
Cherry or peach cobbler (usually have to use canned)
ambrosia (IIRC it's called) 'Jellow mold' of some sort
Thanksgiving themed of course, I like the lime flavored
Biscuits &/or sweet cornbread
Damn my mouths watering thinking about it
I'm gonna' miss it this year, probably Christmas too
Happy Thanksgiving to all
Want to have a little fun with a Cornish Hen?
(Getting to be an old favorite this time of year)

Some do! I know one who has. It looked similar to this effort:I wonder if Vegans fashion tofu into turkey shapes and cook them up?

Christmas in Minneapolis? I send Linda back East for Christmas to see the (kids). I stay in California. The wife is a Nurse and works the night shift - all the rest of the family is spread around the country with the home base in Minneapolis. We all gather there for Christmas. Thanksgiving is usually a solo holiday for me because of the above. So no turkey here - I'm going to cook a Cornish Gamehen and eggplant - and watch lots of football.
Still so much to be thankful for. I hope everyone stays safe and enjoys the holiday.
