Who is running a 408 stroker with a 904 transmission

your just not gonna get torque like a 383 from a 318. the 904 trans is not the issue. The 318 can be made to run good or even mean but will lack in low end torque. so if you want power start with the basics, if your engine is week do a rebuild put on a good exhaust with headers and good system, 4 bbl intake maybe even consider swapping to better heads. then rebuild the 904 and make it tight. If you can or want get a 360 for more cubes. If your looking for some help send me a PM im in north jersey.

Strokers don't lack low end torque and 318/390 strokers are no exception. Maximum torque starts a bit past 2000 rpm and continues to 5000 rpm or so. Perfect for a street engine.

That's all well and good if you want or need the expense of a stroker. yes I said it. some will say its no extra expense, given if you need everything inside the engine ,its not much more but its extra labor and money to buy the kit (now that kits are available its simpler) but if all your parts are good no need for a stroker. That's just me. also if you do a stroker 318 you defiantly need heads to feed it other wise you still wont have power.

If your 904 has a shift kit and the pressures are turned up you will be fine. Go for it. I don't think your close to a 904s limitations.
