I was just thinking about that pic of Paul Tibbets...One Brigadier and four "Colonels" pulling the props thru om a heavy bomber.
Damn shame that B-26 isn't still around (and the people)

The Zero and F4F Wildcat photo above reminded me of this one ....................

Here's a P-40 that actually survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941....................... It was damaged earlier that year in October 1941, in a landing accident and was sitting inside a hangar at Pearl during the attack. This is probably why it survived. Later on in early 1942 it was crashed into a side of a Hawaiian mountain, killing the pilot on a training mission. It was eventually recovered in the late 1980's (I think) and restored in the Y2K years to follow.

That's me standing next to it, smiling like a foolish Cheshire Cat, at having the opportunity to be so near to such a great piece of Aviation history. Wearing a Mecum Auction Mopar T-shirt .................. :)

Sorry Blade, close though. The Germans only built 1, if any of the 4 blade type K-14. What is shown in this picture is the Spanish built Hispano HA-1112 M-1-L, in German colours.

And for a choice from the Chinese menu....

When i said last variant, i wasn't referring to the plane pictured, i meant the LAST 109 built by Messerschmidt....as You say, one was built & it performed like it was shot out of a gun. Initial climb 6500 fpm......for a recip that's phenomenol.
A Guy here in so cal in mid to late 90's hopped up a Marchetti w/ a P&W PT-6 & clocked a 9500 fpm climb. Articles were in,
In Flight & Pacific Flyer. 9500 fpm on a prop!
