Who Likes Aircraft ?

Here's mine...

When I worked night shift in London, the Concorde fleet was my alarm clock. The 5:00pm arrival was the alarm, and the 6:00pm was the snooze button. Rattled my windows since we were directly under the flight path in Richmond. Very cool....always wanted to do one of those Supersonic tourist flights around the Bay of Biscayne, but never got around to it. Now it's just a memory. :)

For what a ticket cost, you'd think they could have hired some good looking stewardesses.

the P-51 is a great fighter, no question. But...on one of our trips to The Air Force Museum, Dad and I got talking to a Thunderbolt vet. He said the Mustang was the plane you got your pic taken with to send home to your girl, but if you wanted to get home you flew the Thunderbolt. You stand in front of the 47, looking at that hugh P&W and the eight .50s sticking out of the wing...and that beast looks killer!

I'm shocked at how many P47D fans are out there. People always look at me weird for being my favorite warbird. They're like a hemi-road runner.

Great plane! Probably the heaviest single prop fighter ever built, maxing out over 8 tons with large comfy cockpit and air conditioning it was more like a hemi New Yorker :)

Seniority, not looks is what got one the Concorde sched. Same at Air France where I worked, we were "stuck" on the 747's, while the more senior crews were assigned to Concorde.

Here's how I remember them:cr8crshr/Tuck

wow love these old plane threads, reminds me when I was a kid, a way different world now.

Richard thanks for posting that, man that was cool. I seen the original prototype in England at the imperial war museum in Duxford. Got to walk through it and i remember every morning the concord would pass overhead on its way to JFK as I was walking to the school bus stop. It was loud just making ready for landing as it few over the great south bay of long island

Dude You're LIVING THE DREAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite is the F4U Corsair. Yep I remember the TV show................ I built several models of "Pappy" Boyington's plane as a kid. I still build them as my "other" hobby.

When I was growing up there was a man named Harry Doan who had several Corsairs. One was a "dash 1". (its in Brazil now) He had a dash -1C 20 MM cannon armed version. (I think that one is in Galveston now).

Then he had the "Beast" F2G "Super Corsair". It was finally restored by Bob Odegard back to it's former glory of air racing days.

Here are some OLD pictures of the dash 1 that I took as a kid. If you look close in the back ground of the last two pictures, you can see the cannon armed plane. It's minus the engine / prop and rudder assembly.

one you might not have seen before Bristol beaufighter heavy fighter /ground attack / anti shipping aircraft flown by the aussies during ww2 "the whispering death"

Pretty cool how many guys on the board have been in the Military working with aircraft, and the hard core fans that travel for bird shows, and the insane that restore these birds to their former glory.
I also live on Long Island for close to 60 years. We had 2 aircraft manufacturers here back in the day, Grumman & Fairchild.
Remember as a youngster the test flights and sonic BOOMS!! The Republic Fairchild facility location is still a small airport.Used to get my Avgas there.
