That would be a cool story too! But unlikely. The right wing tore off in the crash and ended up a couple hundred feet ahead of the plane when it came to rest. I think the left wing was removed and the rest of the fuselage was abandoned.

If anyone ever would go after it, it would be disassembled anyway.
 
Many years ago I had a coworker who owned a P-51 Mustang and I had the good fortune to accompany him on a flight to search for a downed plane in the Sierras, as he was a member of the CAP. An experience of a lifetime and what a thrill!
