i just saw a war department video featuring the twin engined supercharged P-38 Lightning. Now I am wondering, did those engines have air filters? If so, what did they look like? Thank you.

Although some literature talks of P-38 superchargers, they were turbocharged. Most filters were simple screens to protect from debris on take-off. Actual flight was usually in clean air, and higher power was a priority over filter restrictions.

The P-38 and P-47 were the only fighters with enough room for turbos, all other fighters used superchargers.
