Planes circa Korean War, on my dad’s home for a couple years. Mom&I spent awhile in Los Angeles area with a couple great-uncles families.

Found this in garage. 600ton doors at the ends. It also creates wind gusts when on nearby runway.

Those old Thunderbots (and Hellcats) are as aerodynamic as a brick.

The hellcats were pretty blunt. But the Thunderbolts, although having the large radial engine nose were actually quite streamlined, with their fuselage showing much lower Reynolds numbers than the Cat. The M model, used in England for chasing jets, would top out at 473mph.
This is the N model (M model with added range for B-29 escort service) and it doesn't look that bad.
