We’re finally getting around to restoring these P-38 people pods. Yes, you heard that correctly... probably the most terrifying and claustrophobic ride of WW2. During the war, Lockheed decided to design Bellytanks for people, either as an ambulance or for photo surveillance, this must have been one loud and uncomfortable trip. I found this pair of tanks in a salvage yard about 15 yrs ago not far from the old Lockheed plant in Burbank CA. They had been converted by someone to hold fluid and had an aluminum nose welded to the front. It took me a few years to figure out what they were but once I found Photos of the P-38 ambulance I knew immediately. They are the same size as the 300 gallon P-38 tanks used by racers but have unique features the other tanks don’t, no outer flange, Special structural ribbing on the interior, 4 mounts on top for fixed struts, round flange for plexiglass nose and a removable tail held on with dzus fasteners. These may possibly be the only surviving pods in existence as I’ve never seen or heard of another. I’ll display them with camera wielding mannequin and tell the fascinating story and perhaps someday they’ll end up in a museum. .

Rumor has it (yup, I'm still connected...tee-hee-hee) that the Air Force in incorporating the Hypersonic Cruise missile into a Highly Modified B-1B Lancer for "test purposes"
That is what Edwards AFB does, Flight Test of Advanced Projects.
Anyway, the Hypersonic Vehicle is rumored to fly above Mach 25, which is 18, 525 mph...this vehicle flys above that!
My best assumption is it will be a weapon on-board the New B-21
Note: It is Nuclear capable (the Hypersonic Vehicle/Missile)
