Talking to the oldest tonight and don't believe that China can do anything by themselves. He was there 2(?) years ago and told his buddy that looks exactly like a C-17. Interpreter said No,No it's not. Had a small window in nose for a bombardier (?).

In aviation, no they won't be taking the lead. They have built some airframe copies, but in the engine department they're way behind. They have to rely on Russian engines in their fighter attempts, and their Comac C919, intended to compete with the 737 and Airbus 220 and 320 Neo class, is using CFM Leap engines. That was the plane that the US took Comac to court over, getting indictments for ten Chinese nationalists for stealing or attempting to steal information and technology from 13 of the foreign aerospace companies working on the project.

That airplane was a beast - 380 mph. and a pressurized cabin, the largest metal flying boat ever flown. It is a turbo-prop and looks like it has six engines but in reality, it has ten. The inner two pods on each wing house a twin coupled Proteus with each engine driving a prop (contra-rotating) while the outer engine is a single. Ultimately, it was built too late as jets took over the intended traffic. Three were built but only one ever flew.
