They were called A-26 when they entered WWII in 1943, the designation changed to B-26 from 1948 to 1965. When they entered SE Asia service in Thailand in 1960, they were B-26. It was switched back to A-26 in 1966 and continued with National Guard service until retirement in 1972.

That odd looking device is known as 'Richtungshörer', it was an acoustic listening device for locating the position and flight direction of enemy aircraft to help anti-aircraft batteries.
